I agree with those people saying they are glad just to be able to see the fights.
At least it wasn't PPV.

 

I agree Dempsey was quality.

Watt had a point in calling for it to be stopped in round 9 - Cotto took an awful beating. Boxing is a brutal sport - let's not forget that. Sometimes a fight needs to be stopped for the own good of the fighter that is getting beat up bad.

 

The team is shocking and always biased. I always fast forward past there talking its worthless and never contribute an opinion.

 

Actually, I thought Watt did a decent job for once. He stopped giving Cotto credit when Manny turned it up after the fifth, but he gave him plenty of credit for his work and summed up why Manny was causing him so many problems.

He was spot on in the Santos-Foreman fight too.

 

Tough crowd on here. Always some moaning *******s about the coverage.


I agree though, the presentation was not befitting of the fight. I agree they should have built up Pacquiao and Cotto a lot better to put some context on the fight for casual fans. I'm not sure they would have grasped how special that was. A quick 2 minute build up hardly does it justice.

 

i think for the first time ever watt did a decent job last night. especially on the undercard.( dont know about the chavez fight, cant bear watching that crap so i fast forwarded) didnt seem as biased as usual and gave some good views. and im one of his biggest critics usually. lets hope hes turned a corner. well someone probably showed him some threads out of this forum .

As for the rest they're just terrible, smith is annoying. and the studio gang are just pathetic. i cant bear listening in to their lovefest anymore.

 

This situation is getting out of control. Sky just seem to have no respect for boxing, and certainly none for the viewers. I feel like we should be doing something, but we're powerless. We've just gotta endure this tripe. It angers me. I tell you, there are some bad punditry teams in other sports, but none of them are even a patch on what we have to put up with. This is bottom of the barrel stuff right here. It's absurd. In no other sport has the commentary hindered my enjoyment of the actual event, but with Sky's boxing coverage it is frequently the case. Watt what was better than usual last night, but still not good enough.

Also, I agree with others, my main worry is how this will turn off casual fans and distort their view of events. Thanks to Watt I've had several arguments with (casual fan) mates over Haye-Valuev. They're convinced that Valuev was robbed and that Haye is no good! Equally, another I've spoken to simply had no comprehension of how big yesterday's fight was or how much of a top fighter Cotto was. They thought it was just a routine bout for Pac and kept asking "why isn't he fighting Mayweather, blah blah blah".

To be fair to Sky, they did get the word out there very well beforehand in the case of both fights, more so than usual. Nonetheless, on the night they were ****. No two ways about it. I'm sick of it.

 

Yeah I don't remember at all the post fight interviews, which was ****ing stupid. Lolsky. The only one out of the three I would give a thumbs up to is Johnny Nelson. Nicky Piper is never happy and Glen whatshisface is just fail of the highest calibre.

Bring in Naz, Eubank and Bruno for the box and I will never miss another sky boxing presentation.

 

In fairness to Pac, other than Cotto periodically outboxing him in the first four rounds, he made it look like a routine performance.

 

That's the thing though, this wasn't supposed to be a routine performance. At least I think so. Sky failed to show that Cotto is a beast and alot of people thought Mayweather was ducking him at one time. It would of made Pac look even better in the long run too, beating Cotto when, I believe logically he should of lost. That's why this was an amazing fight in my books, but to the casual fan I think it was just another fight that Pac was better than the other guy in.

 

I'm not really sure what you're expecting. This was a fight where Pacquiao was heavy favourite. It was a fight that he was expected to win, no matter what you may think, so the coverage has to be grounded in reality. They can't portray Pacquiao as the underdog when that was not the case.
