Gents, I don't come on here everyday so I'm not in the middle of all the latest drama unfolding, but I've seen a couple of threads mentioning Sky pulling out of the PPV business side of boxing until 2013, but what has just shocked my eyes even more is looking at their "Live on Sky" Schedule.....it's fookin empty!!!!!! What's the craic with Sky and boxing? Have they just abandoned it? What about all the Yank fights like Mayweather vs Ortiz? We used to always get them for free, have they kicked them into touch? Can someone give an armchair fan a quick update in layman's terms? All I know is the boxing schedule is barren and I'm not liking what i see.
Sky have served a termination of contract to all British promoters for an undisclosed fee, and have no plans to show foreign fights. Apparently boxing is too costly for the figures they get.
The story of them pulling out of PPV was an opinion piece by a journo. Absolutely nothing official about it. If a fight comes up which they think will make enough money, I'm sure it will be on PPV. With it being the end of the season right now I think SKY just haven't announced their fixtures yet. There are plenty lined up though like McCloskey vs Prescott, McDonnell vs Hall, DeGale vs Wilczewski etc. There is no sign of them pulling out of Boxing at the moment, and I don't expect there to be either.
They won’t pull out, but they must have realised that boxing is crippling itself if the biggest fights are on PPV. Consider that Mitchell-Murray was on normal Sky and still got less than 300,000 viewers (I think). Then look at Groves-DeGale and it surely got less (someone can correct me if I’m wrong). Those were two massive domestic fights, with good stories and engaging personalities. And James DeGale. Look at how they performed – those sorts of numbers are appalling. Hardcore fans may still pay for boxing because we’re all hooked. But casuals who could help the sport grow will not pay £15 to watch a couple of guys they barely know. Sky seems to have realised it and told the promoters that only events that justify it will get on. Hopefully that means Haye’s next fight will be on normal Sky, along with all of Frank’s. It’s not the public’s responsibility to pay athletes inflated salaries. Market forces should dictate – in a time when boxing is a minority sport you cannot expect to receive massive paydays until you have built an audience that will justify it.
Good stuff, I didn't think they had anything scheduled in going on their website which make we worry for a moment, but clearly you know more then I do lol I know GBP have cosied up to Primetime, but any idea if we will still get other American PPV's for free, like Pacman vs Marquez? Is the budget still about to get the big USA PPV's for free over here? (Besides the Guru )
can we have an end to all these sky threads. there has been no solid evidence about them pulling the plug and until there is any evidence, this is all rumour and conjecture and just fans any of the small flames that there are in this story. its a nothing story at the moment.
Records need to be forgotton and good, significant fights be made. End of story.... the time for building records is gone. Thank God.
I've been told by a very good source that it's true. They're giving PPV a rest mainly because of the last two Haye fights.
considering they are at the end of their domestic season and i cant think of hardly any fights currently being made i dont think its something to panic about just yet if they do pass the buck like they did a few years back it`ll most probably be to a pay tv company like espn while certain domestic showdowns make it to itv, channel5
I dunno, won't be sure until we hear something offical. They are plugging Froch-Ward very early, had a piece on sky sports news today at Froch's training. Wouldn't be surprised to see them put on a uk card and then off to AC for the big one later that night.
PPV will be back lon sky once another mega fight is made like Khan v Maywetaher or Mayweather V Pac Frank ****** could have anothe rmagnificent seven bill. that will be PPV no doubt
