Does anyone else find this outrageous!? Its bad enough if we are watching a fight on Sky Sports. It shouldn't happen during any fight as the corner is an integral part of the fight. We all want to hear what is going on in the corner. The likes of HBO and Showtime understand this so well that they actually go to the expense of hiring interpreters and SHUTTING UP when they go to the corner, unlike Jim Watt or John Rawling who can't shut up when a cornerman is talking. Now as I said, it's bad enough doing this during a Saturday night fight on Sky Sports. But to do it during a SKY BOX OFFICE event is a complete shambles and a clear case of Sky treating boxing fans like complete MUGS. No other country in the world has this type of carry on. You pay 15 quid and you get ripped off from hearing what is going on in the corner. And then when they actually do go to the corner you have Jim Watt or John Rawling talking and talking so you can't hear. Ian Darke understands this and actually told Watt "lets hear what they're saying in the corner" at one point when Watt was talking over Booth. This is one of the biggest cases of Sky Sports taking the absolute **** out of boxing fans.
Yes, and no translator. Just realised you said that, replied before reading. Silence is nice during introductions sometimes too.
Never used to happen before. It's only a recent thing. It's something you would have noticed in the past. I believe that even the average mug on the street who tunes into a boxing match or buys into the hype and orders a PPV, wants to hear what is going on in the corner. It's like going to a quick add when the referee gives a penalty kick in a football match then coming back just before the penalty is taken. Absolutely criminal by Sky. Really taking the **** and raking in the money at our expense. Can you imagine the outroar in America if HBO did this during one of their PPVs?
Fully agreed. I've always hated Sky doing it, but now every significant fight is £15 extra, you would expect to hear the advice trainers are giving in between rounds. At times you can miss important bits of boxing history, watching the latest ****ing car commercial. Joke.
Potentially a fighter could be pulled out between rounds, thus ending the fight, something which is almost akin to a winning goal being scored in a Football match. Instead of seeing this happen, we get to see a **** Ford car or some other garbage. And for the privilege of shelling out £15. Ridiculous.
Ads between rounds are a disgrace and something else that fukkin annoys me is "We apologize for the language in the corner":-roll: I honestly think thats why the idiots talk through it in the hope that no swearing is heard over their gobs.
Is it not a case that when they don't sell massive amounts they risk it? Imagine missing the end of the biggest ppv in history because of a coca cola advert? I don't think it happens every fight.
We've got it lucky. I was on holiday in Italy during the 2006 World Cup and they were showing ads in the middle of the ****ing games (and I don't mean half-time). Not so fussed about ads in rounds, it's not like the cornermen come out with anything worth hearing for the most part, apart from the Dark Lord of course.
Its a kick in the teeth when your forking out 15 quid for 2 hours TV. Personally I find the corner advice is often as interesting as the fight itself.
