Sky dont do themselves any favours when you think about it, not with their policy. Sky look to grab as much as they can irrespective of whether it could potentially alienate potential future customers. I mean sell the fight, but dont sell it relentlessly and build it up beyond all recognition when you know the % chances of it being what your hyping it to be are minimal. Sky can still put their little spin on to sell these fights, but they dont do themselves any favours when they relentlessly hype fights that aren't competitive. Sky dont look at the bigger picture, they dont realize that in the long run, you can make more money by nurturing a generation fans, which is probably why Boxing is still a niche sport in this country, people wont pay that kind of money to watch Boxing, not if their just casual fans, of coarse there will be the odd one off, but as I say, when the hype does not equal the fight, those people rarely buy PPV again, if they do, it will be a long time till they do.
:deal Sky live in the world of short term gain and long term major loss. The problem is that they don't seem to realise that even though anyone with half a brain cell can see it. The sad thing is they have made some real improvements to their Boxing this year and that has essentially gone out of the window with all their bollox. It's no coincidence that Boxing's popularity declined on a major scale after Boxing went from ITV to Sky even with the likes of Lennox and Naseem Hamer around.
Agree. People in this country just aren't prepared to pay that kinda of price for Boxing imo, not consistently anyway. You would have to generate a bigger fan base throughout the country to really do any good, and because they have alienated so many fans due to their short sightedness, they would prolly have to take a hit financially to get them back on board, to regenerate interest in the sport among the common man.
Well Audley's magic touch killed boxing on the BBC, maybe now he's killed boxing on Sky Box Office? We'll see soon I suppose, it's not the numbers for this one that matters, it's the numbers of the ones after it.
