Hes been called "Dudey" since he was a young lad running about Mitchel Park in Dungiven. You won't hear many people address him as "Paul"

slap in all fairness hes just about on the verge on fightin for a world title
big if i know but when bradley beats alexander the wbc becomes vacant
olusegun/chebah winner is number one contender morales fights marquez at lightweight and mccloskey who is currently number 4 will fight olusegun/chebah for vacant wbc title
if all goes smoothly then fthis fight couls be much bigger later int he year

All this talk of "Green lights" being given by HBO isn't really how it works for fights like these. HBO is airing the fight on tape delay, they really don't have a great deal of interest because ultimately there is only a handful of fighters he could fight with whom it would make a connection with the US audience and its happening in the UK. GBPHBO eyes are firmly on Brad/Devo -> Khan vs the winner. To them this is an across the pond meaningless bout for him to fill his time with.

SKY's interest is whether or not it's marketable for they will be the ones shitting up SkySports news with it for 7 days. Mcclosky is a terrible opponent but you could do some decent buildup with him.

Personally I have no doubt he'll fight peterson, all this talk of other opponents is just a means of driving down Petersons price, they have a couple of weeks yet before they have to secure an opponent so I'm sure there will be more twists

At this stage I would be surprised if its not Dudey. If its not, then at least he got a bit of publicity out of it.

As Moorser pointed out, he could fight Olusegun for the vacant WBC belt later in the year. However, thats all if's and but's. Gotta take a world title shot if it comes your way, even though Olusegun/Chebah would obviously be an easier fight

I am delighted for Dudey, hopefully this comes off he fully deserves his shot and will give Khan plenty of trouble.

id like him to actually have a name. i dont think any human being i encounter on a regular basis or your average person has ever heard of Paul McCloskey or would be able to tell you what he does if you mentioned his name.

as someone else said, he should be looking to fight for a vacant belt or gunning for the winner of Zab-Mabuza. maybe even fight a contender.

its an awful matchup for "dudey". he doesnt have the power needed to hurt Khan and he isnt outboxing a much quicker, more skilled, more heavyhanded and longer fighter.

Paul has the ability to beat any of the top light welters on his day and i wouldnt be suprised in the slightest if he beat amir, imo hed give amir more trouble overall than maidania

Why call Willie Casey, 'Big Bang'?, why call Naseem Hamed, 'Prince Naz'?, why call Manny Pacquaio, Pac-Man?

It's called a nickname - they are generally pretty common in boxing. Catch up!
