Give me a ****ing break. He fought well for the opening few rounds against a well past it Munroe who moved up in weight. He then poorly let Munroe back into the fight and it was getting very competetive until he hurt Munroe with a good shot. He then showed some very poor finishing skills until IJL wrongly stepped in and stopped the fight. So how can it be rated as a great performance? I think he got quite luckly to be honest because his failed prolonged attack that somehow won him the stoppage would have only tired him out at a time in the fight that Munroe was growing in confidence and effectiveness. I'm not saying for one second that I think Munroe would have won the fight but I think we would have seen it get a lot closer and certainly close enough to tell us that Selby will never be a world champion. Don't get me wrong, he boxed okay and I've nothing against the lad but it's like because sky have billed the fight to be a great performance by Selby, even if that doesn't happen, they'll go along with the theme anyway. It's bull****. I was an okay performance with a bull**** stoppage that threw up more questions about Selby that answers. One things for sure, he's a poor finisher and IMO he won't win a world title.
I wouldn't say he's a poor finisher his finishing instincts are good he kept Munroe trapped in the corner and wasn't letting him out IMO he just doesn't have the power.
I don't buy into the Selby Hype, he's a good boxer and will probably challenge for a world title but I cant see him beating any of the champions in his division. It will be interesting to see how Selby deals with a real pressure fighter like Gradovich, I can't see him dealing with that type of fighter. I hope he does well though, I'm just not sure.
I thought it was a good performance, not special. And he could pick up a "world" title, but I can't see him competing at the very highest level with the Salido's, Vetyeka's and potentially Lomachenko.
could pick up a title depending whos champ at the time. Is abit over hyped in my opinion but he's still a very good fighter. Too much hate goes on here to guys who can't punch but have skills. If a guy can punch he's loved until the hype ends on here lol. skills pay the bills.
Too much momentum commentating from Sky. Either Selby was dominating or he was letting Munroe back in. No middle ground. I couldn't give Munroe a share of half a round. Selby was in complete control against an overmatched, undersized and over the hill opponent. But one whom was very game and came to win. Ultimately, Selby doesn't have the power. He needs to try and sit down and bit on his pinches because as he moves up he is going to find opponents walkthrough him. Bit like the Simon did
I thought it was poor finishing from Selby. He kept Munroe in the corner alright but Munroe seemed happy enough there as he knew Selby wasn't getting through with anything of note. As I said in the OP, maybe it was a tactic from Munroe to let Selby tire himself out as we see so often in boxing. The fact is Selby hurt him, got him into a corner and couldn't finish him. The most notable thing for me was in that whole sequence he didn't throw one bodyshot when the body was wide open. That was poor stuff IMO. I'm not just criticising Selby purely on his punching power and finishing though, I feel his skills are over-rated too. That was the worst version of Munroe I've seen but I'm convinced if the fight went on he'd have got more and more competetive. He was getting into it a little and that last attack from Selby would have taken something away from him I feel. He was using up a lot of energy. Decent performance, decent win but I do not get the hype and I do not see him winning a proper world title.
i thought he was superb.....but...and not knocking him because i am a fan...his speed isnt as fast as is spoke about...he's not THAT quick
That's about all you could say about him. Apart from lack of power his technique is poor enough, he wastes a lot of energy...this will tell against him in future. Also his angular bony facial features will mark up badly in a tough fight. Personally I'm not too impressed. He is fit and very quick, also very big at the weight....but not my idea of a great boxer.
he won every round of that fight the only thing he could have done better was to get a proper stoppage but that clown Ian John Lewis took that away from him.
He wouldn't have stopped Munroe in that corner in a month of Sundays. That's what I'm saying, his attack in that sequence was actually very poor, not body shots whatsoever to open Munroe up when that was clearly the thing to do.
I'm another that's not sold on Selby. Good fighter don't get me wrong, but he's received quite a bit of hype which I just don't see.
