I agree, I thought viewing figures would be better but its no surprise that even most hardcore fans didn't want to stay up or get up at 4am to watch Inoue make a routine defence against an overmatched opponent.

7k is incredibly low even for Sky.

Course they have. The fact Inoue isn’t a global superstar is the fault of Adam Smith and Sky

Taylor will never be a stand alone uk ppv fighter unfortunately.he would need the right opponent and even then he would be up against it.

He isnt saying that though is he

He is saying the SKY viewers were conditioned for a certain product

That does make it difficult to promote other alternatives

Give a WWF fan of the 80s an NWA TV show to watch and they will reject it

    Why?

Because they were conditioned to watch a certain product

The 4am start times dont help either lol

Can't SKY replay it the next day a few times?

Which just proves that live coverage at 4am isn't something that people outside this echo chamber are desperate to have.

I understand where he is coming from but not convinced thats the reason.

It's not like every matchroom Saturday fight night would get huge ratings.

If inoue was on at 10pm the numbers would have been much larger. I don't think someone who watched matchroom shows turns off another show simply because Eddie Hearn isn't involved.

The anology with pro wrestling doesn't work as boxing doesn't have the kind of differences between different promoter shows like you would see in pro wrestling.

The production may be slightly different but ultimately people watch to see a fight and the type of fights you see don't change depending on who the promoter is.

Oh I know.i didn't stay up to watch it so I knew the live audience would be minuscule.was just pointing out nearly half a million people have watched it prior.not bad for a little Japanese fighter.

Agree to a degree but with the right promotional company building a decent card behind him it is possible

I think this is an amazing number and, to be honest , 7,000 at 4 am, doesn’t seem too bad to me. How many are watching netball, live, at peak viewing times ?

Probably only 7,000 hardcore boxing fans in the country to be fair.

yeah that's my thought on it.inoue could become a global star like manny imo there's lots of similarities between them.

Sorry, i think it does work

Eddie as you well know is a fan of the UFC model

That in itself is practically a carbon copy of Vince killing off territories and acting like they were the only show in town

Eddie has conditioned a huge section of fans this way

If they start seeing shows minus the talent they have been told are the best, they will reject it

Exactly. I'm a boxing fan and I think Inoue is incredible, but I also have a 'record' button so I don't have to wreck my Sunday morning watching a fight that looked a sure thing.

I don't see why people are surprised. Boxing is something of a niche sport now unless a fighter can find an angle that helps them transcend the boundaries and appeal to the wider sporting public. The Top Rank deal I think is for people like us, to keep us subscribing. It's never going to get the casual buy in that's the difference between average and high ratings.
