Precisely. His retirement reminds me somewhat of Lennox. Lennox knew that Vitali may have the beating of him and was winning on points until the horrendous cuts. After that he flirted with retirement and reneged on a bout with Vitali. Ultimately he lost the desire and didnt want to go out on a loss. Hatton is pretty much the same. At 47 or 40 he's not going to beat any of the better fighters. He has money in the bank and is comfortable so why bother? I just hope he doesnt try to stage a comeback later on in life. If he calls it quits now it needs to be for good. He doesnt have anything else to offer the sport in my eyes.

I think it's a bit unfair (on Lewis) to compare them.

I'd compare Hatton more to Riddick Bowe - in many ways - barring natural talent obviously.

I envy every young'n on ESB, fresh outta college and in there early 20's; oh how I remember those days. But you'll see fellas, once you hit your 30's and the metabolism slows down, you actually see things from a whole different perspective. You understand how Hatton's way of dealing with things by heavy drinking (high calorie Guiness or Bass ales) and going up to 13 stone between bouts will not only give you a bloated face, but it destroys your depth perception, punch resistance and reflexes. Good to hear Rick will hang'em up. Worryingly though we might see what he would've been like as a regular joe without the boxing training.

 

Never was a big fan of Hatton and I'm still pissed off about the **** he was allowed to get away with in his fight with Kosta Tszyu which was more like a wrestling match, but I like the guy. Some things about him are annoying like the "one of the lads" ****, speaking in 3rd person and thinking that the p4p title is directly transferable but still seems like a good guy and his stand up is actually pretty good IMO. He repeats his **** but so do all the proper comedians.


People on here have been saying the dude charges £20 for a picture. If that **** is true then I change my opinion of him but I doubt that is true. I can't imagine him doing that.

 

It was 36/37 for me. I moved from the weight I'd been constant at since my early 20s and can I **** get back to it!!

I just hope he looks after himself and his money and the British and World Boxing scene will be a lot poorer place without him.

 

You're probably right Bowe may be the better comparison except Hatton was no way near as talented as Bowe.

And iv spent the last 5 weeks in hospital. Thats why i havent been on the boards.

 

Nothing like Lewis...Lewis was 38 years old and had had enough, Hatton is 30/31, ****ed his own body up but wanted to continue.

All this "Vitali was winning on points" bollocks really gets my goat...half way through a bout you are winning absolutely nothing, you may be "up" on the cards but thats it...winners like Lewis have their hands raised at the end, not mid fight.

 

I actually don't get people whining about the points in that match. It was midway through the fight and was something like 4-2, with Lewis having just done his best work in the fight.

And Lewis got a genuine stoppage from his punches. The only 'debate' is because Vitali was up on the cards until then. It's like people complaining about Taylor-Chavez: it doesn't matter if you were winning until you got stopped. You still got stopped.

Correct. Hardly a shock. So many others do. Bored rich boys with not a lot up top. But I have heard the rumours from too many independent souces for there to be a possibility that there might be a grain of truth. And it helps you keep going on a three day binge, I am told. That apart, when he beat Tszyu he was special.
