Same here. I guess the "crossover" appeal of a deep card with no star name was limited though?

    Exactly.

Mick took a load of nobodies that were unknown on terrestrial and did alright before making a balls of it.

If he can convince the lads that it's the right way to go everybody is a winner. He and the fighters will make more money long term and the fans get to see a good product.

That's in contrast to a fat signing on fee and a couple of fights a year against bums because your promoter can't afford to put you on!

Perhaps it's something that the board could get involved with too..... approach companies and ask them what they want and relay that to promoters to help the sport prosper?

It'll be either that way or the highway..... the American TV companies aren't going to throw loads of money at our Olympians, they don't even do it for their own, because top boxers coming out of the ams are ten a penny.

If you want to be on HBO/Showtime you've got to take some hard fights, unless your manager is Al Haymon.

That's especially true of a foreign fighter, look at Froch and Martinez for example.

    You cynic!!

Exactly, no PPV's by SKY is very bad for the sport in this country, because it means there are not enough popular mainstream fighters and fights.

Funny how Sky appear to be blaming it on Haye yet they were the ones that forced him to fight Audley Harrison :patsch

Must be that, with no 'name' the buyrate might not have being that great.

I don't think it's a problem with how many ppvs they can sell. Haye/Harrison and Haye/Klitschko were very successful sales wise and made millions for the people involved. It's just that Sky aren't primarily a pay per view broadcaster, they have millions of customers and will have received thousands of complaints after every single one of their Sky Box Office cards. It's obviously just not worth the hassle and potential backlash to Sky as a business to continue with boxing on PPV just for the sake of it. If promoters and boxers want to keep receiving more money than they probably deserve, they'll have to either go to another pay per view broadcaster or earn it by fighting regularly against top level competition.

Good News if they fight on Sky Sports or terrestial, bad news if they all go off to Primetime.

So does this mean we be back to normal Saturday fight nights? any chance of a few 3 hour big shows on normal sky? Also will this mean sky wont be arsed buying American fights either?

I think this will confirm David Haye's retirement now. Can't see him fighting Helenius or someone without the big wonga, although I suspect he will be back in a year or 2.

This is a turning point. It is vital boxing fans boycott all PPV for now on.

Well they could of shown Khan on PPV.

Sky are in a different position to primetime in the sense Sky have a huge customerbase which they need to keep happy. A Khan fight on Sky could draw 100,000 which wouldnt be too bad but is it worth it if at the same time it pissed of the wider install base.

The Haye v Klit no doubt was a commercial success but it did not offer entertainment value. Groves v De Gale wasnt that exciting either.

Why? I do not get the hate of PPV, you get something for nothing; nine times out of ten, it is rubbish...

PPV is the only way top class boxing can be broadcast, the sport is not popular enough to be marketed any other way.

The problem being that we largely haven't been served top class boxing on PPV.

Looking at how Khan v Judah turned out could you imagine how they would of went down at Sky.

Haye v Vlad a disappointment and then the Khan v Judah fight which was rubbish with a joke finish.

Will be very interesting to see what Haye does now? His guranteed tv money wil be less if he returns and I aint convinced his up for that.
