Yeah he is that popular in America he cant sell out any of his fights there lol. He always says no one in the US knows of Kell Brook, is Amir British or American ? Plus Brooks last two fights have been live on Showtime and have been him winning world title fights in them so i think he will be known now. Khan is running scared
Do people not realise that Khan is basically an American based fighter? Everyone is going on as if he will be fighting Algeri or whoever in the Bolton arena with no American tv Instead of the MGM grand on primetime Showtime. I would love to see Khan - Brook this summer but it's only a option for Khan..1 of many.
What good would fighting algeri do for khans rep in the US - at least if it were someone like Bradley/porter/thurman/maidana it'd be a more respectable duck than the only man chinnier than khan
Because outside of hardcore boxing fans the Americans are completley oblivious to the hype Of Khan - Brook and how big a fight it is. The US market is mammoth especially if Khan fights on NBC (which is unlikely but a possibility whilst he's with Haymon). if Khan destroys Algeri as he should..I mean a legit KO then they will spin as being something that Pac couldn't do etc. As I said before I would love the Brook fight to happen but most Americans couldn't care less IMO
I highly doubt anyone outside of hardcore boxing fans know who algeri is, and Khan is hardly a huge name over there anyway. and kell was getting a lot of praise for Saturday from the U.S. pundits and it was live on showtime so brook is getting known in the states, you're massively playing down brooks value in the us As for brook Khan - brooks win was the main story on espn boxing pages on Sunday and rafael had a column pushing for brook v Khan so that's a fight that people over there would have interest in, far more so than Chris ****ing Algeri
You make a lot of good points. However I would disagree that Kell is getting much attention in the US. even his fight with Porter rated as was one of the lowest viewed cards in recent Showtime history. I would also argue that you are downplaying Khans popularity in the US. You must remember that only two fighters hold their own individual contracts with Showtime- Amir khan..not Danny Garcia, Thurman, Deontay Wilder etc Amir khan. he's also better paid then those counterparts and that's Because he is a major star..also the only other fighter with a contract is Mayweather which says it all really (khans last contracted fight was Alexander but he's apparently due to sign another one), Before that he was an established fighter on HBO a far bigger network then Showtime where he also held an individual contract. Look all this is BS..we all want the Brook fight to happen but khan can get away with fighting Algeri and he will do so on primetime US tv probably in the most prestigious boxing venue in the world the MGM and he will probably also receive no less then £2million sterling which is more then Brook has earned In his entire career.
Last paragraph pretty much sums it up really - shame is its just a shameless attempt to avoid a puncher and get wins in the hope he gets the mayweather pac winner but unless it's a one sided whooping by floyd there's probably a September rematch (which Khan cant do) and that takes floyd to the end of his showtime deal, so if he wants to do 50-0 I can see him going after whoever has the IBF belt to be truly undisputed champion and then retire, so wouldn't be too shocked if brook and Eddie if they can't get the Khan fight this year get someone like rios in the summer, get an easy mandatory out of the way in December (hiya frankie) and then try to get floyd for May 2016, and if kell wins he's laughing and if he loses he still gets paid big and can make the surely inevitable move up in weight (and he can't be far off that anyway)
Fair play to Ward if he travels, I think that is my only criticism iof Ward, he was so adamant that he wouldn't travel but seemed to expect everybody else to. As for the female dog they call Amir Khan, still as delusional as ever, saying he wants the winner of Mayweather Pacquiao and Brook could happen within 12 months, he has missed the point, Khan has no opponent NOW, Brook and the British public want it NOW, the only person who does not want it is Khan. There is no logical or acceptable reason not to fight in June. I used to say (around a year ago) Khan would beat Brook on points, I think I had more confidence in Khan than he has/had in himself. If Brook is an easy night then take his belt, take a career high payday and then talk/beg for Mayweather or Pacquiao. Khan fans can't defend this embarrassing episode anymore, no opponent, not during Ramadan, a world title and a wad of cash and he still says "not yet".
Khan will not fight a puncher and that rules out most too ww baring bradley. He will only fight a puncher when may or pac retire or say i will never fight khan, but if there a chance of a fight with either he wont risk going in against a puncher. Froch best chance is now vs a rusty inactive ward who seems less than interested in boxing
