    You're right, of course.

However, Sky seldom make news of the rumours unless they know they're 100% correct. If they have doubt they usually leave it to other places to get on with the rumour until such a point as they know it's nailed on.

Too bad it ended the way it did. He was a great light welterweight.

I hope Ricky does retire. I don't necessarily think he is finished, he was excellent vs Malignaggi and that was only two fights ago, but the guys emerging in his division makes world title level a no-go area for him. Hatton coming off a devastating KO defeat is either going to find himself completely outboxed by Bradley or Alexander, or knocked out by Khan or Maidana. LWW is too deep for a guy on the downslide, and Ricky was never a welter. It's over. Very good fighter, very good career, time to knock it on the head. We'll always have Tszyu...

Why is it so terrible that he retires?

He had a wonderful career and lost his last fight to who many consider the best boxer in the sport right now.

I was never a fan of Hatton's but give the man his due.

    He was great for boxing.

    Best of luck to him!

It's the right decision based on two facts. Firstly he's never gonna reach elite level again and second his body is too far gone.

I was there when it started against Tzsyu and I was there at the end with Pacquiao.

It was a pleasure bigman - Enjoy your retirement!

It's a shame being obsese between fights and now too lazy to get fit again has made him retire.

A very wise decision for Hatton. He simply didn't have what it takes to compete with the best anymore.

If he didnt get fat between fights, he'd still be fighting today, IMO he'd beat the likes of Khan, Bradley And Alexander.
