Headed by Sky Sports Box Office, PPV is becoming big business in Great Britain - spearheaded by current heavyweight king Anthony Joshua.

Since the very first paid contest in the UK way back in 1966 when Muhammad Ali came to Highbury Stadium in England for a fight with Henry Cooper, fans have tuned in to see their favorite stars in action.

The biggest event on British soil happened when Anthony Joshua took over the top division by defeating Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017, a fight which drew over 1.5 buys on Sky Sports Box Office.

Joshua also holds the second spot after almost matching that total against Joseph Parker in 2018, whilst the only other offerings to break the 1 million barrier where held outside the UK.

Floyd Mayweather v Ricky Hatton was purchased by 1.15m households in 2007, whilst David Haye's failed attempt to dethrone Klitschko in Germany four years later drew just a few less than that total.

During the 1990's, Frank Bruno, Naseem Hamed and Lennox Lewis had their successes on the platform before Pay-Per-View struggled between 2002 and 2014 with the exception of Haye.

Tony Bellew jumped on board the Haye train successfully with his two attempts recently, whilst Mayweather had further impressive showings with Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor.

Kell Brook hasn't been able to establish himself in his appearances without a huge name in the opposite corner, whilst the newest addition in Dillian Whyte did good numbers when headlining his own event with Parker this summer.

An ill-fated clash between Haye and Audley Harrison in 2010 did it's best to cool things for a while, although the controversy between Carl Froch and George Groves brought the format back to the big time in 2014 and Sky Sports Box Office haven't looked back since.

I don't see why Amir Khan seems to think his king of the castle. His ppv numbers are nothing to shout about.

That jump between froch v Groves 1 and Froch v Groves 2 is mental.

Scary to think how many buys Naz would do now. He would do ridiculous numbers.

Absolutely mental the numbers Haye Bellew did.

Absolutely comical the numbers Khan and brook did/do. Why they think they’re superstars is beyond me.

What I really want to know is where are the figures for Parker v Fury and Eubank on itv PPV that time against opponent I’ve forgotten.

Sorry just seen it’s only sky sports and prime time numbers. I would still like to see those two figures though!

Brook v GGG was very high. I even think the Brook v Spence number was ok but yes you are right both of them need to be to realise they ain't on no superstar level. A fight between them would still do big numbers though just neither can be making silly demands on the other. At best Khan can claim 60/40

Was Khan vs Medina really on PPV?

I can remember watching that on my TV but I doubt I bought it.

It's all about hype and charisma/personality for selling PPV's and I've got no problem with that, I'd rather watch Dillian Whyte and Bellew on PPV than a couple of bland plodders like Canelo and Golovkin.

There's a few fights missing from that list, Tyson-Holyfield 1 was PPV as was Tyson-Savarese and I think the Golota fight was too.
Also I think more of Hatton's fight's were on PPV than that list shows, was Hatton-Magee PPV ??

The Magee fight wasn't but a lot of his post Kosta fights were ppv that are not on that list.

60/40 is too high on the splits. No way brook will accept that and he shouldn't. 50/50 is the right split for both fighters

There’s a lot missing from that list.

Dozens, where’s the rest of the Naz bouts for starters.

Then some of the figures are off,Froch v Groves and Froch v Kessler 2 to name a couple.

The headliner was Macklin v Barker if I remember correctly and Barker? Pulled out very late.

It was a really good card of boxing,a ‘stacked’ card.
