I've been a big critic of Benn and remain one but Tbf he has improved a bit. He's still in the wrong weight class. Needs to move down, absolutely no chance he can hang with any elite WW right now. Can you just imagine how badly he'd be dwarfed by Spence and manhandled by Porter?

He will lose next year if he is stepped up IMO at Euro level or something. But he could be a fighter who can rack up Ls but still be a draw because of style and name. If Matchroom and Sky are so confident why not pit him against Sam Eggington next year? Eggington can be easily outboxed and it would be a really good win on his record.

Tbh I think Benn would have the beating of Eggington so long as he isn't carrying a glass chin.

Man, he's fighting guys below journeyman level. Eggington would absolutely eat him up

Eddie Hearn in his latest IFLTV interview after the US card... All but admitted that he originally only signed Conor because he was Nigel Benn's son and not because he thought he had real potential.

But I do have some sympathy for his situation and think we can only really judge him in another 18 months - 2 years time. His style is entertaining but the reality is the level he has been and will likely continue at is not great.

I don't think there is any real rush... I can understand Sky's push of him because half of the job is done for them since he is Nigel Benn's kid and they can leverage the success of Eubank Jr but I think they are better off putting their promotional pounds into someone like Josh Kelly he has a much better foundation from a boxing stand point and could surely be marketed clearly especially in the north east.

Isn't it a handicap though? Otherwise why would anyone even bother fighting amateur if they eventually wanted to turn pro?

Someone with 50+ am fights should easily outbox someone with none, barring a sensation.

But he is not going to fight Spence or Porter. He is so young Porter will probably be retired by the time Conor Benn is real contender. He will fights Euro/Brit level for the next 10/15 fights as he needs it to gain experience. So Unless People want to see him get Knocked out they will suggest ludricous scenarios like that.

Eggington is awful. Horrific against that French lad. Has zero ability (or willingness) to make adjustments in fights. Really think Benn beats him with his speed angles and head movement.

The point I'm making is that elite Welters tend to be BIG and Benn is not. Benn also clearly lacks power so he'll get eaten alive if he ever makes it to world level. Even someone like Khan is a lot bigger than Benn frame wise.

Like @CutThroatFade says, he’s in the wrong weight class, surely he’s a super lightweight? Even then, i could still see the likes of Davies Jn, Ryan, Leather, Coyle, Hibbert, Nurse etc out muscling him and beating him, and Catterall, Davies absolutely wrecking him.

I’m not writing him off, but he’s an absolute baby at this stage and I would rather he went away and learnt his trade out the limelight for a year or so.

Yeah Johnny Nelson has gone from a boxing purists joy to a salesman for the casuals.

Again he is still developing he will grow in time. His Frame and Power right now is what i would expect from a Baby Welterweight.Judge him in 4/5years time that will be the closest time to assess his natural Size and Power. He is 21 relax that is very young many boxers are still in the Amateur ranks at that age.

But given what he's been fighting that just seems such a baseless call to make. I'd even back fat Frankie Gavin to match Benn's reign of terror...

As others have pointed out he is in the wrong weight class to go far with clearly limited skills. If he stays at WW, at Brit level he comes up against the likes of Skeete who boxes his ears off for 12 rounds, or he drops down to Super Lightweight and gets destroyed by the likes of Josh Taylor, Jack Catterall, Leather, Davies - the list goes on.
I think he could end up with a British title at WW once Skeete steps up but that is as far as he will go.

So you don't think having no amateur experience is a major disadvantage?

Very few top guys currently had no amateur pedigree.
