http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118004707.html?categoryid=14&cs=1&nid=2562 CEO of BSKYB says he does not want setanta to go under and he predicts that another broadcaster like ESPN will take them over.
I noticed that BSKY,despite it's encouraging word, offered no help fiancially, however. They shall be like all other Sports programmers, circiling like vultures over Setanta's carcass.:deal
Yeah but ESPN has the financial clout to take sky on. Espn will get the setanta scraps if the want them. Sky can't take any more premiership football. They won't pick up the boxing. They'd try for the golf and the IPL, everything else is up for grabs.
I agree. That was sort of the point I was trying to make. The Sports programmers are just waiting for Setanta's demise to pick apart pieces for themselves. :good
Yes, pocket change for Sky. Sky would become Setanta' majority shareholder, and could offer setanta as part of it's sport package - for say an extra £5 a month. I bet a large portion of Sky's 15 millions+ customers would pay an extra £5 a month for the extra football alone. Sky itself would of went under if it wasn't for a merger in the early 90's.
There's a lot of interest in setanta here (Scotland) because of a lot of the football teams relying on the tv money. It was just reported on the news that it could be off air by midnight.
Wouldn't just be cheaper/ easier for Sky to just cherrypick whatever packages they wanted [a]after[/b] Setanta cease thrading?
bodysnatcher is spot on. sky doesn't want setanta being taken over by ESPN as that four letter network are its real competitors, they would rather setanta stay afloat on their own then espn take them over
