Sky TV does not want Setanta to go under!

    Yes, there are lots of supermarket chains, not just one.

    And the competition commission has stopped large supermarkets merging. All of Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda were prevented from taking over Safeway. Morrisons were allowed to do so on the basis that their existing stores were largely in different parts of the country than existing Safeway stores.

    Of course they would prevent a merger between Sky and Setanta who operate essentially the only two mainstream subscription sports channels in the UK.

    Not that we will see the point tested as there would be little incentive for Sky to actually want to take over Setanta. What would they get in exchange for all that debt? Access to subscribers that they by and large already have access to and rights to content that they would either be barred from actually owning (English Premier League) or could just purchase themself for lower prices than Setanta originally agreed (SPL, IPL, golf rights and basically everything else)...
