Obviously Eddie is at the top of the tree by a mile just now, but does anyone think Sky could make Eddie regret the DAZN decision? I don't think DAZN will major take off unless they get some sort of Premier League or Champions League. Roster wise FW & Eddie both miles ahead of sky, but I think we will see fighters leaving to go to Sky. Opinions on who will be top of the british game by end of 2022.
Of course Sky can. Sky has subscribers that subscribe to other sports. Then they might watch a fight night just because it’s on anyway. DAZN right now is excluded to solely purist boxing fans. They need something else, something big or they won’t be around for long.
If SKY throw money at it and take it seriously then I believe they will be the major force. With all the promotion through Sky Sports News I think the casual fans will engage more with SKY than DAZN. Losing Joshua could hurt SKY but I reckon he will want to keep them on side.
Matchroom Box Office will also quickly kill DAZN UK at £7.99 per month and working out at £5.99 per standard Matchroom Sky Sports card.
How long is Tyson tied up with Warren for? Joshua would be dumb to turn down sky ppv money. Especially with the Fury fight just around the corner. Whoever has Joshua has the market.
I find it hard to see DAZN being a success, not as long as boxing is the only selling point. It’s incredible to me that Hearn thinks they have enough content to make a success of this, he knows better than anyone that boxing rides on footballs coattails. As long as Sky gives football fans their boxing fix, they will win.
I’ve been surprised but pleased to see Sky Sports put an effort out this week. Clearly, it’s no coincidence that DAZN announced a price increase and then Sky announced a few decent shows. I really think the power of Sky should not be overlooked - at the end of the day, it’s a household name in the UK. If the Mrs is out with the girls on a Saturday night, and Mr has a Chinese takeaway and is having a flick he’ll check what’s on sports - if a fight night is on chances are he’ll watch it at 8pm on a Saturday. If Sky / Boxxer manage to get a marquee signing, they’ll do very well and certainly could see them taking some of Matchroom’s gang away from them. They already have a decent name with the casuals (Eubank Jr) who they’ll clearly build, and a serious talent (Josh Taylor) who if he catches the public imagination he could run the network for years. Competition is a good thing for the quality that we will see - the only issue is the potential cost to the consumer.
Sky should really market Taylor more up here and he could be massive. They have eubank Jr who tbf talks some amount shite but could sell well if promoted well Again its all about promotion sky and bt have lacked in this department for quite a while and dazn is fairly new. It may be case spend a bit more on marketing and reap rewards.
