    1. Pacquiao
    2. Marquez
    3. Hopkins
    4. Mosley
    5. Vazquez
    6. Williams
    7. Cotto
    8. Pavlik :-(
    9. Hatton
    10. Darchinyan

Not sure what to make of those...........

Top 5 are about right I'd say, from 6-10....

Williams perhaps a bit high.... WTF is Pavlik doing in there....... no Rafa Marquez?

    Calderon?

Dave Clark prompted Johnny Nelson to say Hatton would go straight to #1 and he sort of..... hesitated before trying to get his words off a bit quick!

I just hope the British ATG top 10 looks decent when they trot it out..... I am betting on Calzaghe being #1 :verysad

From memory it was Lewis last time

Cotto is a funny one..... I don't reckon he is all that, being truthful.

He obviously has the win over Mosley..... but I would bet Mosley to do him in a return.

I like Williams, but he will have plenty of trouble finding opponents to really elevate him.

Pavlik should not be there. Rafa Marquez hasn't won a fight in over two years and hasn't stepped in a ring in more than one year, so perfectly justifiable to not have him in there IMO. I don't rank anyone in my P4P list if they say they are retired or have been inactive for more than 12 months.

So by Sky's reckoning, if Hatton wins he jumps from #9 to #1. You couldn't make it up :)

I've heard a few people say that, I have no idea why. Cotto took Mosley's best shots, and out jabbed him for the most part. Mosley doesn't have the tools to beat Cotto. It would be the same result, IMO, close but clear win for Miguel.

People have gone up more places in the past, hardly unprecendented.

The rankings are all relative to each other, so don't see why going up a number of places to the number one spot should be any different from going up a number of places to any other spot.

Last time a number one was defeated in the ring was Roy Jones. On the strength of that Tarver went from number ten to number three (using The Ring rankings here for clarity).

Hopkins went from number ten to number two on the strength of beating P4P number two Trinidad and then to number one when Mosley lost to Forrest a few months later.

Was Margo even top 25 before he beat Cotto, didn't he go up to #4 or something like that afterwards?

    Yeah I get ya.....

Weird, seeing a master like Mosley outboxed by essentially a one-handed fighter.

I suppose Cotto was made to order for Margo, who was in turn made to order for Shane. Perhaps the lines became blurred.... I just don't know.

Again, I would bet Hatton to beat Cotto..... but Mosley would **** Ricky up bad, probably a career ending beating!

Quite a lot of people had him ranked five or six. Tbh I'm not even going to use that as an example, nor am I going to use Pavlik being ranked top six after beating Taylor, as both of those were complete travesties and are better used as examples of the inability of quite a lot of people to reflect on things before they speak.

Yeah but Sky believe Hatton will go straight to #1 from 9. Not to number 2 or number 3 but number 1 !!

What difference does that make? If Mosley had lost before Hopkins beat Trinidad rather than after, Hopkins would have gone straight to number one.

The weakness of a great amount of the discussions on this subject is that a lot of it has been along the lines of 'Hatton can't possibly be number one, therefore x will be'. We're talking about a comparative scale. You don't just make Marquez number one by default because Hatton 'can't be', there has to be some actual comparison of their merits.

I agree, I think Mosley would be too quick for Hatton, much too quick. Although if Hatton could survive deep into the fight (very unlikely, IMO) he would probably pick up a few rounds and maybe make a fight of it in terms of scoring, because Mosley's stamina is that of a 37 year old man.

I'd favour Cotto to beat Hatton as well, Cotto has a very underrated jab and just generally better fundamentals than Ricky. But it would be a tough and entertaining fight.
