Kell Brook has said he rejected a fight with Timothy Bradley if favour of earning mandatory status with the IBF.

Bradley currently holds the WBO version of the welterweight crown after a contentious points victory over Manny Pacquiaoearlier this year.

The American is still searching for an opponent for his first defence in December but it will not be against the 'Special One', who takes on Hector Saldivia in a final eliminator for the IBF belt.

"Providing I beat Saldivia, I'll be fighting for a world title at the start of 2013 and it will be on my terms."

    Quotes of the week
Brook defeated Carson Jones in July, after which he was offered a date with Bradley, but nothing was going to derail him from his current mission.

"The Bradley fight was put in front of me but I believe the mandatory position in the IBF is the right move," said Brook, who is back in Sheffield after a two week training camp in Spain.

"Eddie (Hearn) has worked hard to get me into this position and providing I beat Saldivia, I'll be fighting for a world title at the start of 2013 and it will be on my terms.

"I would love that to be in Sheffield too and I know Eddie would do his best to get it here as it would be an amazing event.

"I will also be watching Ricky Hatton's comeback with great interest as a fight against him next year would be an absolute blockbuster for British boxing."

Hearn added: "Top Rank contacted me in August and made us an offer for the Bradley fight. It was a nice ego boost for Kell to be offered a fight of such magnitude but we begun this journey with a goal of becoming a mandatory challenger and now we are just one win away."

Brook takes on Saldivia as the headline act of Betfair's 'This Is It' show at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, live on Sky Sports HD.

hahahaa, ridiculous. We turned down the chance to become world champion because we're on a journey to become an IBF mandatory.

    What an Ultimate Duck.

True but it's good management from Hearn. Bradley would destroy Brook. It is most definitely hypocritical of Hearn though.

I don't think Bradley would destroy Brook. I really don't I think Brook has a lot about him and the Carson Jones fight gave more experience of a pressure fighter

why would he want to fight for the title against an American marquee fighter, what would he gain ?when he can fight in his 4rth eliminator for a title shot, top rank must think Eddie is wet behind the ears offering him this just like Barker got when he fought Martinez

People don't realise Bradley is a very good fighter technically he is one of the best, there is a video on you tube that breaks down the pacquiao fight and shows it wasn't a robbery, he makes you miss ALOT even if its by cm's he's hard to catch with clean shots. He isn't entertaining and I can see why many people thought pacquiao won, but if you watch it again closely with no volume it's no robbery, he'd annailate brook

Surprising ??, Brook was singing the tune that he was ready for Manny Pacquiao even during the Frank era !, now he's openenly admitted he's refused a guy who cannot really be considered a true WW, as good as he is, he is really a JrWW

Praise for Hearn and Brook for admitting it but its a bad move, this looks bad on Kell Brook, fact is, we now have to endure him decimating Saldivia, line everyones pockets a bit more and then have him call out Ricky Hatton whilst he's waiting for the IBF picture to become a bit more clear, all this when he could of already fought Tim Bradley, or about to fight him !

    Poor show

Eddie Hearn "if your as good as you think you are take risks, you dont get nothing without taking risks", maybe these two should practice what they preach or just be straight with people and say Kell would prefer to fight Hatton as Bradley is a step too far right now

Get a grip Denisson Pacquiao smashed Bradley easily, anyone who knows boxing can see Bradley got pounded. Go watch your biased youtube video, that only shows Bradley's 1 or 2 minor highlights.

It was 15 minutes long and showed around a minute from each round and then if you watch the full fightback you will see he blocked most the punches close to his face or they didn't land, I thought pacquiao was robbed before this

He's turned down all the options that would have came with the fight and most likely low money. It makes sense to fight Saldivia become the number 1 contender and fight for the IBF the old fashioned way.
