This sort of thing just pulls in loads of casual fans, only for them to be let down by the truth as Haye takes him out in 3 rounds. It wont do much good for the sport

 

They are a business so they have to sell the fight. It's all part of commercial TV. You have to scratch below the surface and make your own mind up about these things.

ITV try to sell Peter Andre as a celebrity for ****s sake.

 

It will make everybody money, give Haye more exposure and sell more Klitschko PPVs next year as a result. Thats my hope anyway.

 

Hey, at least boxing is in the limelight for a while.

 

Hopefully though, with loads of people watching, the fight wont be exposed as a farce.

Though you hope that some people actually watch the undercard and you might get some new Kenny Anderson/George Groves/Stuart Hall/Gary Davies fans.

 

But if people realise what they are being sold is a lie they could be unlikely to buy the next PPV. I think Sky could have afforded to be honest with this fight and sell it as an underdog getting one last shot. People would still buy it. I don't know... it just doesn't seem great for boxing in the long run, misleading the public like this

The whole Sky hype-machine doesn't bother me, but I just wish when there are going to be many casual fans tuning in, that there was going to be something to showcase the great parts of the sport. I'd be very surprised if the fight on Saturday wasn't a fairly unexciting affair, and it could be a real anticlimax for people who might be believing the Sky hype.

Imagine if we could get all those people tuning in, and at the last minute we could substitute in the Williams/Martinez II fight, or Katsidis/Marquez, it could convert a lot more casuals to watch boxing.

Agreed.

They say it's great for boxing, but enough people ignore boxing because the fighters on the left hand side of the bill seem to win 90% of the time.

This gets the sport a lot of attention, but in one corner you've got a world class fighter (and a **** ) vs a startled rabbit with no chance of winning.

My mates were embarrassed after Khan vs Salita - at least there was an intrigue in that Khan has a glass chin so might lose to anyone..... in this there ain't even that.

 

Audley doesn't even have the chance you'd assosciate with the bigger fighter. Haye's the more powerful of the two and has a better jab aswell. Audleys scored a couple of good knockouts but he's not really a puncher, he's a big guy so obviously he can hurt someone if he catches them but it's not like he's got some secret equalising weapon in the bag, his KO's have been more of the right place right time variety than anything planned.

 

They will say he can do the same to Klitschko and they will have another highlight to loop over and over to convince people.

 

Because by then they'll have realised that it was a technical mis-match.
