Any fighter who gets in the ring has courage, any fighter than Wins a World Title can't have a glass jaw compared to the normal population, any fighter than Wins a World Title can not really be called a bum IMO. Seems to me we have iron jawed, potential World Champions on this site, and lots of them. Most of these warriors would probably run a mile if given boxing gloves. Respect the fighter. :good
agreed but....remember that winning a 'world title' isn't necessarily what it seems in this sport let's call it winning 'a belt', and that certainly shouldn't entitle a fighter to additional accolades if they are the type of fighter who is gun shy when it comes to fighting the best in the division (stay at home fighters with no international exposure)
Agrees , the organisations should try and unify belts in match ups but most don't push for this, the public can identify with undisputed WC imo.
I disagree. I don't respect Eric Crumble for getting into the ring 31 times and getting knocked out 31 times.
unfortunately, casual fans are the ones getting sucked in by all these titles, since they don't know the difference its why fighters like brook, sturm and many others get rich at home without ever stepping up in competition
I don't respect guys like Charlie Zelenoff for going in the ring and quitting in one short round against Andrew Hartley. I know becoming a world champion takes a great deal of work, no matter what talent level you're at. So much kudos to every championship fighter. There are fighters with absolute glass jaws, that's just cold hard fact. Amir Khan for example, has an ABSOLUTELY disgraceful glass jaw.
Take for example, Seth Mitchell, a great athlete. But unfortunately for him, he's got an irrefutable glass jaw.
I think we should all commend fighters for their hard work, but we can't simply say "They have an above average chin, no matter what". That's not true, I've seen guys in my local pub take better shots than Amir Khan, and Seth Mitchell. I am not slating these guys, I am just stating the facts. Their chins are made of fragile glass.
At world level and nowadays possibly european level yeah he probably does but what the op is saying in the grand scheme of things he probably doesn't have a glass jaw, you reckon you could knock him out?
Of course you have a point, but we're talking different levels here of course. When a school bully constantly picks fights and only beats up kids he knows he can take and runs away when another big kid challenges him, he'll be branded a coward. When a quality boxer only takes on the fights he knows he can win and runs away from a big challenge (vacating, moving up/down, retiring etc...), he's just as big a coward as the school bully imo. And the same goes for punch resistance, punching power, speed and all other attributes of fighters. We're talking about comparing with their peers, not to the regular Joe in the street.
I understand what he's saying, and it's not about whether or not I could knock Amir Khan out, I'm twice his size. Most people aren't conditioned to receive punches, professional fighters are, they go through grueling sparring to condition themselves to being hit, so in that regard, Amir Khan is probably more used to being punched, therefore reacting better than your average joe to getting punched. YES. But one should not dismiss the average joe for criticizing Amir Khan's punch resistence, its absolutely nonexistent. And that's cold hard fact.
I think everyone should commend Amir Khan and Seth Mitchell for their hearts, unfortunately for them, their chins are just... glass. I don't think its unfair to point out that fact? It's like saying Paulie Malignaggi doesn't have a punch or Andrew Golota didn't have the psyche. They're just facts.
I'm not even a khan fan, in fact i hate him but Jesus Christ man don't be stupid. You reckon these blokes could survive 12 with any level of pro boxer? Let alone maidana. Khan has a dreadful chin at world level. A bloke from your pub would be finished in under 10 seconds by maidana let's be honest
