I’m not sure how I ended up stumbling on this fight last night… But I expected to be falling asleep or turning it off within minutes… Man, I was surprised! Ruiz was firing, I guess he figured he’s a natural heavy and Toney wouldn’t be able to handle that, so he wasn’t using his oft-used spoiling tactics as much…and Toney was too crafty on the inside to fall prey to it. ….and naturally Toney stayed in the pocket and fired right with him. Heck of a fight. What are some others you’d expect to be duds that turned out to be good?
My favorite in this category is probably Hamed against Augie Sanchez. Hamed was slipping and Sanchez was a former high level am (beat Floyd) who was matched against trash and unproven as a pro. They basically tried to take each others’ heads off until Augie’s lights got put out.
