What fighters can you think of that are or were really effective against slick athletic type boxers? Two examples that spring to mind are: Tszyu: Judah Hurtado Lomachenko: Rigo GRJ Can you think of other examples?
In the first fight, Kovalev was effective against Ward and more so than I thought he would have been before the fight. Truax against Degale is a recent example but that could be more down to Degale being lazy and paying dearly. Mayorga against Forrest.
Zab and GRJ are certainly athletic and fast, but they're both about as slick as a brick. They give an illusion of slickness, at best. I'd nominate Billy Graham, although the statistics somewhat belie it. Lost to Tippy Larkin, but won one of three close ones with Gavilan (a fourth was apparently more routine for the Keed), and his defeats to a young Giardello were close/controversial before he registered the W in their third and final bout. Johnny Cesario was something of a cutie, too, and Graham handled him. He wasn't a pressure guy or a puncher, so he didn't have the luxury of grinding these guys down and out or changing a fight with one shot. It was all boxing.
Come on dude.. Just watch this footwork & upper body movement! He defied gravity at one point! Watch! He was floating! https://i.makeagif.com/media/7-05-2015/vl_u_m.gif
