Pernell of course... Not many people in this world would be able to do what he did. Floyd doesn't even come close to that.

Thats just a ridiculous comment, both guys are in the top 5-6 best defensive fighters ever, there`s no clear cut answer here.... avoiding punches altogether, making opponents hit air goes to Pea, blocking & rolling goes to Mayweather.

I went with Sweet Pea. When I think of slick, I think of speed/agility/movement/slipping/dodging/countering. Whitaker was all over it.

Floyd is a great defensive fighter, but I don't think he can hold a candle to Whitaker.

Probably a lot of young guys on here have never seen a Whitaker fight, so I posted highlights. Check out Whitaker at 1:54 hit that guy with his arm behind his back...and him clowning at 2:49.

Whitaker is clearly slicker. He can be in a horrible position, cornered with his opponent on his back and still not get hit. Some might say he makes mistakes by leaving himself prone when he shouldn't, but it doesn't matter he still doesn't get hit.

Floyd is more limited. Shoulder roll, pull counter, jumping left hook. That's most about it. He is very good at it though and no one has figured it out yet how to overcome them.

    Pernell has more variety.

Sweet Pea was definitely the slicker more athletic of the two boxers. His defense was based on full body movement and fluidity. Mayweather, is noticeably stiffer and less fluid. Mayweather's defense is based more on his shoulder roll technique then just pure athleticism.

Whitaker and Floyd have very different styles. Floyd's style is highly functional, utterly crisp/sharp, with wonderful punching technique, top level shoulder-rolling, parrying, or even simple ducking and swaying when he gets comfortable. He mostly doesn't move more than he needs to, and has quite a professional and simple but potent approach in the ring. He likes to save energy with quick, economical motions. It's business-like, and he just breaks people down bit by bit, like a surgeon.

Whitaker's defence seems much more fluid looking. He's not just concerned with doing well, he's also concerned with aesthetics. He's creative, takes risks, leaves himself unguarded only to weave away from multiple punches, dance aside, and then counter. There's very little of that business-like feel that Floyd has -- Whitaker's style is that of someone entertaining himself as he fights, trying to invent new, prettier and more enjoyable defensive methods while fighting. He gets clipped more as a result, but I'd say he's more entertaining to watch. You know that sometimes he's liable to pull a new trick out of the hat out of nowhere, whereas Floyd's style is very consistent and predictable. Whitaker seems to rely more heavily on creativity and agility, whereas Floyd likes tried and tested technique, regardless of how it looks to the audience.

Both are superb. Dunno who would be 'slicker' -- depends on your definition, of course.
