he's going to fight Margarito ...

    he's going to lose ...

he doesn't have enough skill to clean out the division ... and if i'm not mistaken cleaning out the division would be to obtain (2) more belts and take the lineal title from PBF.

he will not clean up the division fighting the Oktay Urkal's of the world, fighting two guys that are now fighting in a crossroads fight (Judah & Mosley) ... fighting a guy thats only good at fighting up and comers (Quintana) ... and fighting a guy that was on the contender w/ no top 10 wins and no notable fights before Cotto.

barely beating Mosley (had Mosley winning) and beating up Alfonso Gomez ain't exactly what I'd call "cleaning up the division"

His resume at 140 now looks much better than it did at the time. Torres, Malinaggi, Maussa and N'dou have all gone on to win titles since he fought them, and Bailey and Corley were already former beltholders. To say he hasn't faced good competition is just silly; he just has faced a lot of good competition before they're established rather than before they became big names. Other than Gomez and Branco, he's only fought top 10 fighters and mandatories for the past few years.

He hasnt cleaned out anything yet....whats so good about welterweight, the best are fighting the best so they are really cleaning each other out. Cotto did defeat Quintana, Mosley, and Judah....but you also have to take into account Baldomir defeated Judah as did Mayweather, Mayweather beat Baldomir, Quintana(who lost to Cotto) defeated Paul Williams, who beat Margarito who has two wins over Kermit Cintron. The round Robin in the top ten goes on and on.

Welterweight is the best division today because so many fights can be made. Cotto has yet to fight the real world champion in Mayweather, has yet to face the number 2 and 4 contenders Margarito and Paul Williams, and fights with Cintron and a rematch with Quintana would be interesting....He has alot of work to do before he cleansout this steep division.

He never beat Margarito, he barely beat a 36 year old Mosley,an erratic Judah,a very good fighter in Quintana, Urkal was never a top contender at 147 to begin with so how did he clean out the division????

Cotto's done a good job and setting himself up for big payday and event against PBF next year (assuming they both win their next bouts), but I'd hardly call Gomez a "top 10" 147lber.

As far as I'm concerned the winner of the Margarito - Cotto fight is the true Welterweight champion. PBF hasn't done a damn thing to warrant being the top dog, except get past a couple of second tier fighters. Let's see him get in the trenches against Cotto, Margarito, Williams, or Quintana.

Floyd never fought Steve Forbes ... Sharmba Mitchell at the time he fought Floyd had clout and had only 2 L's in 7 yrs ...

Floyd's sparring partners consisted of Baldomir, LoveMore N'dou, and Demarcus Corely.

You never heard of Cotto's sparring partners ...:good

He is headed in the direction of cleaning out the division, where as Mayweather is headed nowhere and has no desire to fight anyon in the division he supposedly rules.

He is the champ, no doubt. But how long can the champ go without fighting contenders, and still be considered the champ? At what point does inactivity at the weight class you preside over become effectively the same as retirement? If he chooses to fight his next two fights at 154lbs and 140lbs, while avoiding the clear #1 contender, what is the division supposed to do?

How is the champion of the division headed no where? ... he doesn't have to clean up the division ... to fight him the division must clean up itself.
