What do you guys know about him? His record looks patchy but has a series of fights with Midget Wolgast. I'm thinking about Benny Lynchs standing as a British ATG sobtryibg to see how many good wins he has. Stoppage of undefeated Peter Kane must be the best.
know. Typing on my iPhone ****ed up the words a bit but I meant I'm dissecting Lynchs wins. He unified with Small Montana, wondering if anyone knows how good a win this was. I was obviously specifying the Kane win as Lynch's best.
the ring magazine had about 6 of the top 10 from the uk so a lot of his wins were world class. the one he didn't beat being jimmy warnock who in turn had lost to peter kane. i still think wee benny is the top flyweight of all time
Thanks. But how good a win was Montana? Lynch is one of my favourites, Id say he's right up there at Fly.
I dunno but i think i have seen highlights of tis fight seems an alright win to unify the division, Montana was American claimant? wasnt he?
If you have please share:good Ain't sent your dvd's off yet have been off work again today ill, will get 'em done by end of the week. Just trying to see where Lynch should place in an alltime British top ten, so trying to see which of his wins are really good. As a unification bout I'm just looking to see how good a win Montana was and whether it should be ranked among Lynch's best wins.
Found a little bit online. Surely having a series with Wolgast is enough to show he wasn't bad. Where do you rank Lynch Greg? Top 5 Fly? Top 10 British?
Lynch to me is a top 5 Flyweight and a top 10 British fighter but neaer the bottom of both i like his style of a boxer-puncher. I read a book on him that was good as well cnt mine the name though.
Thanks, any info is much appreciated :good Greg I have a Lynch book on the way, supposed to be the definitive biography of him and his life in Glasgow, very much looking forward to it. Got the Greb book on the way as well so looks like my time will be occupied over the coming weeks:happy
wolgast beat a chap named lamorte in 1930 to clear up some of the confusion stateside about who was fly champ and as you know fleaman montana beat wolgast in 1935 so how good was wolgast at fly when he lost to montana 5yrs is a long time to flyweights they dont tend to have as long at the top as the bigger men ,so i wondering how much did wolgast have left when he fought montana. just a thought
