http://sport.guardian.co.uk/smalltalk/story/0,,2246336,00.html
Michael Jackson used to ring him in the house and Naz would put the conversation on speaker phone and let us all listen as he tried to embarrass him funny stuff
I like Johnny Nelson, he gets stick for his 'Entertainer' tag, but when he was fighting I always wanted him to win, something about unatural talent being succesful. Its easy being a fan of Arsenal, Roy Jones or Roger Federer. Havnt read his book, waiting for the paperback copy as im a tight *******.
Johnny Nelson was my favourite fighter for the last few years of his career. I don't know quite what it was about him that made me a fan - maybe just that he's such a cool guy. Some of his fights were boring but I had to watch them to make sure he won. I rate him as the best pundit on the Sky team. The only one to pick PBF before the DLH fight and the only one to actually have him winning it afterwards! If I recall correctly Glen McCrory said something silly like "the pound for pound best around Oscar De La Hoya" when asked who would win.
his fights used to send me to sleep, but he was a talent.i think he's a good pundit and comes across as a very classy guy.
As said, often dull fights but what a weird and wacky career the guy had. Definitely a character and it's a shame he isn't discussed and recognised more by the boxing media in the UK.
Johnny Nelson. IMO was a very unclassy guy, slaughtered Enzo Macarinelli for years & then bottled fighting him & retired. Does anyone remember the interview when both were at ringside, Enzo was respectful & Johnny got stuck into him, telling him he would knock him out? Thats what makes me respect David Haye, hes doing what Hatton & Nelson didnt do, fight his big domestic rival. Sometimes in life you have to back up your boasts, & Nelson didnt do it. Thank **** for guys like Haye in the sport. & I say that as a guy who doesnt like Haye for acting like a pimp, but I respect him for taking on Enzo. Big time.
You don't think Nelson's knee injury was genuine? You think he made that **** up? You are talking absolute bollocks. Whether he's (un)classy or not is a side issue.
aww, do you believe everything you read? Fuxake, I have probably read more books on boxing than you have had proper dinners. & heres the shocking truth, most boxers are economical with the truth! Shockingly enough, they often tell lies to make themselves look better! Jeez, next you will be telling me that you believe everything you read in the tabloids. & as you took a cheap shot at me, let me return the favour. Why the **** do you call yourself Prideofwales when you dont even back your own fighters? ****, even I defend welsh fighters more than you. You should change your name to PrideofUK. Cos pride of Wales is a monicker you simply dont live up to.
i agree with Dunky here. One of the worst things in boxing is to pull out a couple of days after making your opponent train like a demon, run early hours of the morning, diet to strict regime, restrict family contact etc etc, you can't say Nelson isnt guilty of this? Nelson was very overrated.
i'm reading it now. some good stories in it. to mike tyson: "just make sure ya fit fatty" knocking herol graham flat in sparring. :yep
Well if you dont me asking as you are reading the book HH, could you please tell me what Nelsons excuse was for losing to James Warren? & dont worry its not a test, as I honestly havent & have no intention of reading the book. If you or anyone else can tell me what he said about that fight, I would like to take the conversation further:good
