long ago, big hands were considered an impediment to becoming a good boxer.

If you go by the Ring Record Book:

Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney both had fists measuring 11-1/4", Burns was 12"

    Braddock - 11-1/2"
    Marciano - 11-1/2"
    Louis ----- 11-3/4"

    Liston - 15"

The biggest fist cast I saw of anybody's when I visited the IBHOF years ago was Carnera's, which was indeed conspicuously larger than that of all others who had one in the display case. (The tiniest on display of anyone's was Armstrong's.) I'd defer to any more recent visitor of Canastota. I wouldn't pay as much credence to recorded measurements as I would an actual casting. (It's not a vivid recollection beyond the extremes of Primo and Hank, but I do believe a cast of Sonny's fist was among those overshadowed by Carnera's.)

Yeah I remember a BBC interview with Rahman the day after he beat Lewis where they were walking around a pool - do remember thinking - "Jesus!!? His hands look massive compared to the interviewers!!" (The interviewer was a smallish guy anyway but still - also Liston's always look stupid in pictures and his gloves always look bigger than all his opponents on film too

Remember seeing a picture of Big Abe Simon once too where he was being shown a few things by Jack Johnson and Abe Simon's hands looked double the size of Johnson's!! Think Luis Firpo's may have been pretty big too but sometimes it's difficult to really know from pictures and stuff - John L Sullivan's always look like bears paws in pics of him as an old guy - but i read a report about him wrote by a female writer where she said he had surprisingly small and dainty hands??
