Obviously all this people picking even welters weights to beat a giant like carnera are talking nonsenses without any basis. Robinson was exhausted against maxim because a small man have to make the perfect fight to outwork a bigger man. And maxim was a lhw... How the hell would he beat carnera? A giant that at 275 pounds was pure bone and muscle? Stop talking crap please... On this forum carnera,tommy morrison and a few guys more are automatically trash in fantasy fights

 

Some guys live in a fantasy world where size only mattered after an arbitrary year during the 20th century.
When a supposed evolution in the human species occurred that allowed big men to be more athletic and smarter at boxing.

For some reason, big men before couldn't learn the same exact techniques their smaller weight counterparts were employing under the same exact trainers, in the same exact gyms, at the same exact time. I think their reasoning is that the early SHWs all had diseases which made them big, but essentially weak or some silly crap like that. And that in the 1980's, the same decade these posters had the most testosterone in their lives (mind you this is the same thing they criticize Fleischer and Beinstock for), is when SHWs developed "fast twitch muscles", and "learned how to use their size."

Willard and Carnera didn't understand the concept of leaning on a smaller man to tire and smother him? Or how to make themselves tall, and harder to hit? In what fantasy land? Will the candy cartoon sugar fake analyses that lazily aim to bolster unrefined agendas ever stop?

Let's look at this way, Carnera fought in an era with some great smaller men and less restrictions on weight division mingling....

Yet the smallest guy to beat him near his career peak was 196 pound GOAT Heavy Joe Louis. The rest were over 200 pounds and had some reach on them.

And outside of his prime, you still only had heavies in the upper 180s beat him. He also used his size to defeat the 186 pound all time great Loughran, who was on decline but still a presence.

So, I think anything outside of some all time great light heavy sized guys like Charles and Moore would be a huge stretch.
