Smallest boxer you'd pick over Primo Carnera?

Inargue or argue away, I don't really have the passion for boxing I once did. You rank Loughran higher, I rank Toney higher, who's to say which is right? Did Loughran ever beat anyone who looks as good as Mike McCallum does, or Michael Nunn? Loughran has a lot of good wins but he also has a lot of bad losses. Toney has very few losses in comparison. Either way like I say, I base more on film than resume.

I'm sure I'm right, I'm hoping Usyk adds more credibility to the notion of smaller men beating bigger men but time will tell.

For me, it comes down to this, I don't think anyone in the right mind would argue Carnera is more skilled than Toney. Carnera has only one thing to fall back on and that's his size..so the argument isn't whether or not Carnera is better than Toney but whether or not his size is enough to overcome the disparity in skill. For me the answer is no.

 

Hate to disagree with you Russell but i don't think Eugene would bother him in the slightest and i'm no Primo fan.

 

Hey, supposedly Ali and Hart sparred and Hart managed to bloody Ali's nose. I believe it's a fairly well known tale and doesn't make me raise an eyebrow to be honest.

Vito Antofurmo also marveled at Hart's power, saying that even the faded version of Hart he faced was a whirlwind, who's punches literally "lifted him off the canvas".

I'll take crunching Ali's nose over anything Primo accomplished, thank you.

People picking guys like Hearns, Robinson, Duran, Ward etc is hilarious

Realistically there's a few guys at Cruiserweight that MIGHT have been able to do it like Usyk, Holyfield, Roy Jones etc but no middleweights and under are doing anything to Camera who is way too big for them.

While he wasn't a great boxer Camera was a huge man that did know how to box, the fact that he's huge makes him a target for smaller people to dislike.

 

Sam Langford and Bob Fitzsimmons and Tommy Burns.

I guess Bob Fitzsimmons was the smallest at Heavyweight? Maybe it was Sam Langford? (I did not look up their weights.)

Burns was the shortest HW champion at 5ft 7ins and Fitzsimmons typically the lightest during the champs respective HW primes.

I've seen Langford listed as anything between 5ft 6 and 5ft 7.5ins. For whatever it's worth, I've long thought of him as 5ft 6.5ins. I'm not certain, but that may be because Clay Moyle, who i consider the foremost authority on Langford, maybe described him as such. Imo, the prime HW version on Langford was heavier than Fitzsimmons.

I reckon the likes of Quarry and Jersey Joe Walcott spring to mind, especially with a through ref. Move, score, clinch for your life up-close, maybe go for an under or overhook.

 

Carnera sucked, he had no wins over any really notable opponents, he lost to Louis and Baer which were by far the highest level opponents he ever faced, and he actually lost to some lesser opponents too

Robinson would simply outclass him in ring movement, ring IQ, and speed, and if he came in over 160 closer to LHW he could do some damage, he wouldn't spark him like Marciano would but he would have no problem out pointing him
