In a way yes, but I still see the 40s guys as more skilled overall. The GOAT has his peak years in the 40s.

So you define the whole era by one fighter? If so, I can argue that 1920s is the best decade ever because Greb fought in that time.

Greb is not the GOAT, SRR is.

You have your opinion, I have mine. My opinion is certainly defensible, unlike most of your opinions.

Toney and Langford and Bivins would all be decent picks.

Greb was 160lbs and we have no footage of his fights, no chance he beats even 78 Ali, It would be like Usyk against Shawn Porter oh wait they actually fought oh wait, Porter beat him, jk they were both 165 at the time, but yes imagine Usyk vs Porter now and that is what Greb vs Ali would look like size wise

It depends on when in 78.

He was deteriorating as the year wore on.

In January, he was coming off a recent win over Shavers. He could probably have beaten anybody below Heavy weight.

By years end, one or two might have managed the feat.

The only fighter below HW that I might favour, even at that point, would be prime Roy.

Instead of talking about size, please tell me how 1978 could beat peak Greb. He wouldn't stop him, he wouldn't outwork him and he wouldn't keep him away with his jab.

You are talking as if Ali would have zero chance of victory. Talk of size is actually relevant here because Greb is essentially a middleweight and overcoming 50 plus pounds on top of height and reach is going to take a fair sort of effort even against this version of Ali. Ali's strategy in Spinks II would be reasonably suited here.

Not at all, but I'd like to hear more than just "Ali is too big for Greb".
