Nearly ruined the fight for me, terrible commentary all the way through. I wish I could have switched them off, some of the stuff they were saying was just ridiculous. Examples: Round 1, Maidana gets knocked down, straight away Smith goes "I'm not sure he's going to make it!" as he says it Maidana is back on his feet! Round 10, Khan is rocked but later in the round Watt thinks he is ok "The legs are strengthening" - about 5 seconds later "HE'S SAGGING!!!"...... I'm all for supporting our own fighters, but call the fight correctly for the viewing public, don't make up what is happening. SKY really bug me with this at times, they completely fabricate the truth.
To each their own I suppose, to be honest I was really into the fight so it was ok, but they just got to me at times. Just don't rate Smith as a main commentator if im honest.
I think we have to take into consideration that they get excited when they are commentating so some things will come out that don't make sense. My view is that they add to the excitement and experience. I watched Ward v Bika last week with the Yank commentators and they just have a normal conversation throughout the whole fight. It ruins it for me so i would rather have Watt and Smith, excited and talking a bit of shite than 2 blokes who sound like they are having a chat in the queue for their pension at the post office.
jim watt needs to **** off, get someone in there to freshen it up, id love nigel benn or chris eubank on the comm team,. watt is quickly becoming the andy gray of boxing..... andy gray does my ****ing tits in!
Watt's comentary is always utter shite. Always has, always will. I much prefer the US commentary as, amazingly, it sometime relates to what I am actually watching on TV. Duke McKenzie's commentary is also shockingly bad
Watt is truly getting past his sell by date. Every time Khan was rocked it was after Watt had said he was in control and bossing the Argentine boy. He was slavering this pish, mouthing off about Khan going up weights because he has nobody to fight at light welter, when Khan ate that looping right hand in the tenth and was all over the ring hanging on for dear life. Just shut up Watt!
Was terrible commentary from them. Even worse than normal for Jim Watt but it didn't manage to take much away from the fight. It was a terrific fight and incredible at times but they were getting far too excited. It was more like a fanzone than professional commentary. They didn't show what the thought the score was until the end of the fight then I nearly pissed myself when Jim Watt had Khan 6 points up!
to be fair it did look like he wasn't going to get up he was that doubled up in pain, he was still struggling when he did manage to get to his feet. exactly. sometimes when you watch HBO they are sitting chatting, and least Smith and Watt are engrossed in the fight!
