Smith going into the fight with a loser mentality.. Canelo should have tried to get Haymon to let him fight one of his guys, at least they probably believe in themselves... This Brit is already conceding :patsch

LOL!! If Smith has half a decent chin, he'll go the distance. Ko'ing chinless Khan and Kirkland doesn't make Canelo a puncher. Both of those guys were KO'ed in a round...one by a fighter with 6 KO's:patsch:lol::lol:

    Simply put.. Canelo can't punch:hi:

Sounds like Smith doesn't like the way Canelo plays the business game. If he's willing to downgrade Canelo at the cost of hurting the PPV numbers then he obviously has more respect for boxing than Canelo does. I'm liking how this whole GGG-Canelo situation is bringing real fighters out who aren't afraid to speak their mind. BJS, Smith, and Rosado interviews are always fun to watch and read.

Canelo's reputation has taken a hit but business-wise, all these guys wish they were in his shoes. Funny how some of these guys, ie. Saunders, Eubanks Jr, etc criticize Canelo and claim they would have taken the GGG fight , but of course "only if the money is right"

Everyone wishes they were in a better financial situation. Nobody is going to argue with that. Some people however, are willing to put money ahead of everything else, even if it means looking like a pansy in front of your entire country. Some aren't willing, and I respect that. Because as a fan they're the ones who cater to my interests the most.

I agree with most of your post. In Canelo's case, at first glance, it's hard to back him up based on the way things happened but if you take a step back you can easily understand his decision from a business angle. I'm willing to bet most of us would have made that same decision.

The GGG fight is still there and when negotiations start again he will not be bound any WBC mandated purse split.

    I like Smiths attitude.
I think hes going into this with full belief and when a fighter does that it makes them alot harder to beat

I think Canelo will come in over, they have said they are going back to the MW division after Smith and want to fight Saunders so what is the point killing yourself to make 154 for a title you have zero intention of defending.

They will offer Smith compensation and he will probably accept it.

I'm sure if Canelo Solidifies himself as a top middleweight than GGG will be more willing to compromise on the purse. But then again, it seemed like GGG already made enough compromises. Canelo, as the A-side, got to decide everything in the fight. Venue, ring size, gloves, etc. As far as I'm aware GGG didn't ask for a single thing in negotiations. The purse split and weight are set by a default standard since it was a mandatory situation. Movement off that standard was at the request of Canelo, not GGG. GGG simply declined that request, which was in his right to do so.

NOTHING Pollo Canelo does can ever regain the proud Mexican fans that have disowned him. He embarrassed himself & embarrassed them with his cowardly actions. How he can even show his face in a boxing gym I don't know. If he came in the gyms here I know every Mexican fighter & fan would walk out They despise him Its all his own fault too he's really & truly

Exactly what compromises did GGG make?

The weight and purse split were dictated by the WBC and they benefited GGG. Although Canelo, as the A-side would have probably had leverage over the minor details(ring size, gloves, etc), they were still negotiable but I don't believe the negotiations got that far.

Allowing Canelo a tuneup before enforcing his mandatory status. It's Canelo's fault he squandered his opportunity to adjust to MW against a MW contender by fighting Khan for an easy paycheck. At the end of the day Canelo thought he could use his cash cow status, if you want to call it that, to stall the negotiations and milk his title. He was wrong.

    Hmm
    Ward champ at 168
    GGG champ at 160

Meeting in the middle for 2 champs at 2 different weight class is not a duck.

Giving up your belt to avoid your mandatory defense at the weight class you are currently champion? That's a duck.
