I stuck it on a double with Macklin and DeGale, thinking that it's better off in my pocket than theirs.

    ****in Macklin!

Round 8...every round it seems like someone is looking to box and use their jab but it's not long before they both give up and start fighting up close. Macklin keeps finding himself against the ropes, at the mercy of Varon's fists. But a nice rally from Macklin here, unloading his punches!!! He's coming back strong to finish off the round. Close round that and the commentators reckon Macklin nicked the round. I'd agree with that.

    5-2-1 Macklin.

I think Macklin put out one of his last bursts. I think he'll get stopped :-(

    Macklin 6-2 Varon

Macklin looking sharper than in the previous 2 here, much more lateral movement but he's still being backed up on to the ropes too easily. Into the final minute of the round Macklin unleashes a nice 5-punch combo upstairs which leads to Varon going below the belt yet again. The late showing from Macklin gives him the round for me. "Back on track" says his corner.

Macklin looks spent but he is digging deep. Varon has put a real good effort on so far. Become a very good fight that can still go either way.

    76-75 Macklin

    4-2-2: Macklin

Much better work from Matthew. He gave the play away a few times, but used the jab well early on and those late flurries pulled it out.

Martinez would kill Macklin, whatever the outcome here he's surely lost any chance he may have had at getting a big fight.

76-75 Macklin judges will have him a few more ahead.
