Fowler has been given 6 relatively straight forward wins on his record since the loss against Fitzgerald. A retired non puncher in Rose made him work quite hard but since then he's barely broke a sweat. That does not set you up for a war against Liam Smith.

I think his better days are behind him now but he will keep coming forward slamming that jab in Fowler's face. He will absorb any shot that Fowler lands and smile through it because he loves it. Why would he shake hands when he's clearly the type of fighter who has to get into war like mindset?

I don't think either of these lads are gonna stop each other. I think Fowler believes he's more skilful and dynamic than he actually is (due to some easy touches these past couple of years) whereas Smith knows his limitations and trusts in his engine, work rate & heart.

Smith by a 116-112 type of score.

I think Fowler is gonna ice him tbh...I've no idea why because I feel like Smith is a better all round fighter....just a hunch

I'd describe Smith as a good all rounder who isn't particularly great at anything. Combine his skills and experience on top of being a hard b****** makes him a tough man to beat. Fowler is going to have to be better than ever which I'm not confident we will see.

It’s a good analogy, and I would agree that he doesn’t do anything amazing but is solid at everything. The problem is with that sort of fighter is when they get older and everything starts slipping then they become a shell of what they were and are easily beaten. I don’t know if Smith is there or getting there but if he is, he will lose to Fowler.

Yeah that's true. If the skills decline he can't rely on a big shot to save the day because Beefy is not heavy handed. I don't think Smith is shot though.

Unless Smith got old overnight he wins this fairly comfortably. He's much the better fighter.

Unless old over night there’s no way he’s in decline as many seen to be suggesting. He was superb in Russia. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if he had more power he’d be top top level.

Smith is far better but very few I ever want to win wins so I’m worried. I don’t see the need for the lack of hand shake really but if he’s getting himself in that mind frame then fair dos.

Fowler doesn't seem to be a big puncher so I agree with the majority.
Smith is too rugged and technical can't see him losing or getting hurt.

Still I do like the fight

Pathetic from Smith. Not a fan of either. Initially was backing Smith but I'm not so sure now. Tbh wouldn't mind Fowler beating him.

Exactly, that’s the issue with that mould of fighter, they don’t have that one special attribute that can carry them a little longer than the average joe. Look at people like say, George Foreman at heavyweight was still able to contend when he was an old man because he had that ridiculous power. Bernard Hopkins had his stupidly effective inside fighting old man style that allowed him to box on even longer, but then you look at someone solid in Beefy’s ilk, like say Jamie Moore, and he just turned old overnight and suddenly he’d lost it.

The thing that worries me with Smith is the inactivity. He boxed earlier this year in the disputed draw, but before that it was 2 years ago. Smith has had 5 fights since July 2017, whereas Fowler has had 10. The difference in opposition is fairly wide, admittedly, but you can’t deny Fowler will be sharp.

I dunno. My head says Fowler will win clearly but I really really really want him to get flattened and Smith get another big shot.

Pretty excited for this card now. Had a wild stag do last weekend so looking forward to stopping in, watching some boxing, not drinking and eating some takeaway Thai food.

Every fight on the card (expect 1) is close. This is what we want. Competitive fights where the result is in doubt. This is a must watch show imo.

Smith has too much big fight experience to lose to Fowler. Smith isn't quite yet out of fully out of his prime or a fading fighter.
