Thoughts? He just knocked Hopkins out of the ring, while Kovalev, the most feared guy of the division went 12 hard, tactical rounds with him. Who would win a potential fight?
No. Hopkins was two years younger and an active fighter when he fought Kovalev. That said Kovalev was easily out boxing Hopkins and was pulling his punches. Smith beat an inactive Hopkins, who's legs were completely gone. Hopkins was finding openings on Smith, but was too weak and old to hurt him. Kovalev or Stevenson still beat Smith unless he lands a big shot.
kovalev got a sissy ass decision. smith actually finished hopkins. kovalev is supposed to be all powerful but he couldnt finish a 50 year old man
Smith is kind of basic and Kovalev has way more tools to take him out. I'd love to see Kovalev in with a big puncher like Smith though. If no Ward, make that fight.
I like to see the scorecards for Smith vs Hopkins. I had Smith up 68-65 after 7, but some had it closer and BoxNation had B-Hop way up in the fight. There were close enough rounds for Smith to get the Kovalev treatment at the end, and he had to get him outta there (litterally in this case) to be sure. A younger and active B-Hop got schooled every minute of every round by Kovalev, it wasn't even remotely competitive. So completely different fights and situations.
It was split to Smith.. I don't agree with that.. I had it 4-3 like the judge who had it for Hopkins..
