What a TRAGEDY! I understand that this is the first prime time MMA event and that safety comes first, but this is a CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT. At the VERY LEAST the Doctor should have waited the full five minutes before making the decision to call the fight. So truly disappointing. Lawler carried Smith through the end of the first round to turn the fight into a classic, and I can't wait to see the rematch.
The reason for stopping it was quite lame. Smith had five minutes to recover. Let him have it, then see how the eye is. "Oh, he can't see right this very second! Stop the fight!" No **** he couldn't see right that very second. He just got poked in the damn eye.
Great fight, with a bad ending. He shouldv'e had the full 5 mins before they stopped it. Yes, at that point he might not have seen, but what with a few more mins? Ah! that is my state of NJ<>
That's what I say. If after his 5 minutes, he can't see, stop it. But that lady expected him to be able to see about 20 seconds after it happened. Unless the guy's name is Wolverine, he's not going to get his eye to stop watering on command. Give him a stool, a tissue, five minutes, and then let him get back out there.
