Story here: Coldwell has also mentioned it on twitter about arranging a warm up for Smith first then making the fight with Woodhouse. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-13235653-detail/story.html FORMER world boxing champion Stevie Smith says he will come out of retirement to silence Curtis Woodhouse once and for all. The 38-year-old former IBC light-welterweight champion has responded to taunts by Woodhouse aimed at Smith's protege Tommy Coyle. Ex-Hull City footballer Woodhouse has called on Coyle to step up and fight him to prove who is the best boxer in the region. However, with a sizeable weight difference between the two boxers, Smith says Woodhouse should concentrate on fighting someone in his own weight division and he's happy to be that man. "When I have all my commitments with the City Hall Showdown 2 out of the way I will happily come out of retirement and give him a boxing lesson," Smith told the Mail. "Tommy is a lightweight and only weighed 10 stone on the day he stepped in the ring to fight for British masters title. "Curtis is a welterweight boiling down to light-welterweight. "He would have a good stone on Tommy in weight, but he would have no weight advantage on me. "My weight is 10 stone 10 pounds. So if he wants a fight, he can have it. I'll come out of retirement and bash him up." Smith has not fought for eight years since losing on points against Alan Bosworth for the English light-welterweight title. The 35th fight of his career was his last and only his third defeat with 32 victories. Now a personal trainer, he has recently established the Stevie Smith Boxing Academy where he trains the likes of Coyle and rising featherweight star Samir Mouneimne. Smith claims 31-year-old Woodhouse is trying to lure Coyle into a fight to re-ignite his career after a defeat to Frankie Gavin, however he stresses he is serious about his challenge. "If Curtis keeps spouting his mouth off and wants a fight then I'll fight him. "He is trying to draw attention to himself on the back of Tommy. "If he was a lightweight I'd have no hesitation putting Tommy in the ring with him, but he's not. "I have bigger and better things planned for Tommy. "I set out a three-year career plan when we got together and that plan is coming to fruition. "Tommy is British Masters champion, he's fighting on October 7 for the Central Area title. After a couple of defences of that belt following his win against Jon Baguley Tommy will fight for a British title by the end of next year and that is why Woodhouse is not in contention." Coyle faces Baguley at the Hull City Hall on October 7 for the lightweight Central Area title, a bill that also sees the likes of Mouneimne, Aaron Taylor, James Cunningham and Billy Dawson in action.
For a moment I thought you meant Smigga and had mixed feelings. Surprised to hear he'd retired under the radar and disappointed that he was coming back.
i bet a few of you didnt know that Samir Mouneimne bashed steven smigga smith in the abas a few years back but got blatantly robbed.
last time i saw this joker in the ring his daddy was bailing him out because it was getting too rough for him what a idiot. when i read a former world champion wants to fight me i couldnt believe my luck i was begging dave to make it happen, then i found out it was this clown! former world champion my arse.
Stevie Smith the same guy who cried about Hatton using elbow's when he got a beating. He was a decent fighter with a bit of talent but seemed more fussed about his hair not being roughed up. Woodhouse should focus on better fights then this he's shown his worth against Gavin. He's a very capable domestic fighter.
That night was a shocker. Whoever sanctioned the fight should have been sacked, if it wasn't for his dad getting him DQ'd the lad would have been badly beaten up.
:deal Was a embarrassingly one sided beatdown. I remember when it was made i was pissed off i wanted to see Hatton in with someone of real quality not Stevie Smith. He always looked the part and was decent quality but was getting mauled to bits by Hatton that night. Just re-watching it.. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB7XwVPrRSg[/ame]
