Gutted a little about that but since Smith has been negative In the ring since after the Contender, It's probably not surprising. He used to outwork and be more aggressive which were a couple of his main strengths. Lately, he's been going on the back foot too much mostly being too defensive to throw back much.
Smith was down (or at least touched down) twice - one was pretty clear from where I was sat - and neither was counted.
most ringside obseervers thought that smith won. look at this article: http://www.frankwarren.tv/drill/News/Articles/2008/06/21/text-bendall-stuns-smith.html he might have deserved the nod, but i think it will serve him right for falling asleep in between fights. he lets guys get back into it. most of the time the punches are only landing on pauls gloves but the judges AND REFS don't always see it like that
I dont think Frankwarren.tv is particularly unpartial, especially as Smith is promoted by Sports Network. Enzo Mac losing, then Derry Matthews and now Paul Smith. Frank's only gonna have Amir Khan to milk after Calzaghe retires.
I dont think his heads been right for sometime. I dont think he puts 100% into which seems a shame. I think his brother Stephen will be a massive hit, future world prospect for sure if he applies the right attitude.
although i don't think he's ever been a praticularly skillful boxer, but with mgirt he doesn't seem to fight to his strengths. i wonder if team khan will still consider mcgit
I always said Darren Barker is the best middleweight prospect :yep Schooled Bendall and stopped him no problems
Gutted over this. Really liked Smith and thought he had the potential to at least challenge for a title next year. Never saw him as a genuine world class operator but thought he'd be able to bag a fringe title. Looks like domestic obscurity now awaits - hope not though! Young enough to bounce back!
McGirt Is good for slicksters and Insanely wanted Gatti to box Mayweather. Smith needs a trainer who will get him to use his strengths which are power, workrate and agression. Someone like Calzaghe or one of the Manchester trainers would be better.
Hope Steve Smith does well, the best Liverpool prospects are losing lately although they can learn from It, but were worryingly negative.
Smith was a surprise loss definately and didnt perform well at all. Derry Matthews though was waiting to happen. I hope he can go on to better things but didnt see him as more than top of domestic level personally and Choi proved it. Smith jr won his debut didnt he? Did you see it at all? Any good?
