Margaret was eating a lot more leather and getting out muscled coupled with a closed eye.

But he was gaining momentum because he just kept coming for more with a smile!!!:yikes

  2. I have said it before... Margarito relies A LOT on theater. He ACTS like a badass and the next thing you know, he gets KTFO as was the case against Shane. He smiled... acted hardrock and next thing you know he is dizzy and being consoled by Capetiello.

If you watch closely, Cotto seemed to try and lure Margo to come charging in so the occasional going to the ropes was more of a ploy if you ask me. It takes just as much enery to move in a circle as it does to move backwards... Margo could not handle the lateral movement to begin with...

Margarito has now learned the beauty of Karma. His eye will most likely render him unemployed as a fighter. At least the plaster made him rich...

Exactly, based on ones perspective you could see Cotto slowly abandon the movement and start to sit on his punches as well as body Margo to stop his reckless abandon. To Margo supporters this was taken as a movein the right direction, he was throwing more punches when in reality he was becoming more desparate. Being around the sport for so long it frustrates me to think people did not realize this. Margo showed tremendous heart but he was being completely outclassed and his pick up in movement and punch out put masked the fact that he was being schooled....round 9 just revealed his passion, he did not win the round and was taking serious heat from Cotto.

Based on what??? Margorito was getting his ass handed to him and was even backing up at times so how does that equate to him almost stopping Cotto???

You dudes say some of the craziest things at times!:-(

Cotto did someof his best work in that 9th round. Hit Margo with some of his hardest shots and started pushing him around a bit. I saw NO signs of him cracking.

    100%.

He was desperate, knowing that the 9th could(and was) be his last round. Gave it a good go, but basically just ate more leather for the increased pressure. He had absolutely 0 to show for it.

I think Cotto was relieved the fight was stopped when it was.

It seems like there are ton of people that dont realize the 9th round was a lopsided round in Cotto's favor. A fighters legs and footwork play a huge role in boxing but fights are won with punches not steps forward. Margo kept taking steps forward but in doing so his face kept catching Cotto's punches.

Momentum is a funny thing....you can have a momentum shift in a fight and still lose that round. What's telling is how Cotto was retreating a lot more, eating more shots and pushing off to get breathing room. Since we saw the first fight and how that played out it was reminiscent of their first encounter where cotto started off strong....then Marg began to take over.... which was what it began to look like in that ninth round...actually even before Marg was gaining in momentum. No one knows how the rest of the fight would have played out but this fight look a lot like the last and I know I wanted to see the fight play out.

I had the opposite feeling from his reaction. I looked to me like he was disappointed that he couldn't continue to beat on Tony, hence the staredown at Tony's corner.

After they called the fight Cotto gave Marg that stare that was very intense..... but during that last round of their rematch Cotto was no longer in his comfort zone as his ability to maintain distance dissolved. He was still landing more but he was also eating more and running, pushing and evading more. Which was very different from how the first 6 rounds started. I give Cotto props and I'm glad he got redemption but I do believe he was very accepting of the early stoppage.

  11. After reading some of these posts... You realize boxing fans are incapable of logic when their guy loses...it is all just excuses and made up theories about how their guy was just about to make a comeback...
