poor job by SMoger. he was obviously in the bag for hopkins. totally disgraceful. Murat should file a protest

Smoger is usually one of the best referees, but he was a disgrace tonight.

Smoger is well-known for his kissing and hugging antics post-fight. He did a solid job as usual with this fight, as others have said, a lot of refs would have DQ'd Murat for hitting Hopkins while he was down. He warned when he caught Hopkins doing dirty stuff including the hit to Murat's ribs when Murat's back was turned. Gave Murat ample opportunity to get his act together on the dirty stuff he was doing prior to taking a point away, but Murat continued anyway. As usual, broke the fighters up when needed, but gave them time to fight out of the clinches first. Smoger got "physical" with Murat at the end to ensure the safety of both fighters after the fight was over, he didn't want Hopkins to retaliate or Murat to have a chance to attempt something else after trying to mini headbutt Hopkins as the fight ended. There was also probably a bit of disgust in the action as well, but the core reason was to prevent something bad from happening.

 

He never warned Hopkins for anything. Murat should never have been a mandatory for Hopkins. No wonder Hopkins refused to fight Kovalev. Hopkins will never go anywhere near Stevenson either..........

The ref was a total disgrace!
