"In my view, Chad Dawsons next bout is crucial. He needs to successfully defend his light heavyweight title [which was not on the line vs. Ward] and I believe he can do it. If he gets a win, people will easily forget this fight at 168 and he will be right back where he was after the Hopkins fight. At the weigh-in, I thought Chad looked a bit gaunt. I dont want to say he was drained, but he didnt look quite as healthy as Ive seen him in the past. It could be that the seven-pound difference from 175 to 168 made a big difference. However, I dont want to take anything away from Andre Wards victory, because he is clearly one of the best fighters in the game. No question. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are at the tail-end of their careers, but we have a lot to look forward to with fighters like Andre Ward and Chad Dawson who are now making their mark. There are no warriors like the warriors of our sport and it was an honor for me to share the ring with them." ^^^That was an honest response from Smoger.
Good stuff from Smoger. I don't think the average fan appreciated the significance of Ward vs. Dawson. Two of the best fighters in recent years, with Ward in good position to go down as a legend.
I'm sure not a Dawson fan, but i kinda dissed Ward in the past, but i always respected the guy and gave him fair credit after he beat my man. This time it was allright the fight was in Oakland, because Dawson has no fan base. It was all Dawson's fault he said he could make 168 easy. /discussion
smoger is one sensible ref who does his job right. he also has one of the best haircuts in the game....:good
Smoger is a throwback dude. I appreciate his honest response, and most of all his no nonsense reffing. Hes a credit to the sport
The ref's job is to protect the fighter if he is defenseless. Jones was out on his feet, Lebedev looked at Smoger expecting him to stop the fight, Smoger was either too slow or lazy to jump in, and Lebedev clocked him again.
Oh for crying out loud. Look, Ward would have won anyway. Chad was severely overrated as a fighter who was previously beaten by a one dimensional fighter. That says it all. I never saw what many supposedly saw.
smoger makes it look easy. my favorite ref and one of the best in the biz. that's a very tidy no **** assessment. i expect this from him.
