How long has Joe been diagnosed with his cancer? I read something on Facebook by Ishe Smith saying boxing has "lost a great man"...
Four or five weeks ago, Red...... "Reports from America say former world heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier has died after a battle with liver cancer." http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/other/11448113/ex-boxing-champ-frazier-dies-reports/
Thanks Vic..I sure missed that first report of the diagnosis..but again, I'm reading some posts on Facebook that sound like Joe has actually passed away.
Lou DiBella has posted on his Twitter : "According to Joe's agent, the stories are thankfully false. Glad my tweet premature. Terrible that false info spread " Maybe this is just a rumor. I hope he is still alive !! God bless him ! War Joe !
I read that Muhammad Ali said it was hard to accept the news. I would think having those type of fights with another man and going to that level would bond them in a way not many people can bond. Even though they had some animosity, there had to be some deep feelings there between them the same as all top fighters have for their old opponents. It happens. Guys who are opponents and hate each other during the competition later care about each other.
I looked at a few web pages for some news and saw that he is now under hospice care. Fellas, I lost my dad last year from cancer and we went with hospice in the last months. Here's how that works...... I want to be the last to be spreading bad news for the sake of being the one to spread news. This is not what this is about, okay? But........hospice is whom you call when it's a done deal. Hospice does not allow any treatment or even scans to see how far the cancer has progressed. All they are about is providing the patient with comfort in the final stage of their illness. That is what they do, and they are great at it. They do their job, and they do it well. Point is, once hospice is involved, that's pretty much it. Look, anything is possible........I just have to say my heart sank when I saw the word "hospice." i know what that means.
Just for the record, there was an Twitterverse reference to a Joe Frazier who passed away. It did not, repeat, not mean Joe Frazier the boxer. Thankfully, Smokin' Joe Frazier is still with us at the present time. Muhammad Ali has issued a statement which in part reads: "The news about Joe is hard to believe and even harder to accept. Joe is a fighter and a champion, and I am praying he is fighting now. My family and I are keeping Joe and his family in our daily prayers. Joe has a lot of friends pulling for him, and I'm one of them." Amen.
Unfortunately, this is 100% true, as much as i want it to be wrong for the sake of the Frazier family
