    My take :
When Cooper could be bothered to train and fight he was just as good - better actually - than Morrison. But Cooper was lazier and less well-conditioned than even Morrison. Cooper was a mess most of the time.

Consider than Morrison was groomed by careful matchmaking from early on, and was deliberately put in as favourite in almost all his fights.

Cooper was less well-managed but came through scoring upset victories over the 1984 Olympic Gold and Silver heavyweight medalllist (Henry Tillman and Willie Dewit) in 1986/'87 and the taking on the more experienced contender Carl Williams, who beat him up .... Cooper was already having trouble with the coke.
He then became an "opponent" and had patchy results and sometimes was obviously just there for the payday, but he was still taking tougher fights than most guys would.
Overall he wasn't as good a performer as Morrison, but at his best he was at least equal, IMO.
As can be seen by his fights with Willie DeWit, Joe Hipp, Ray Mercer, Evander Holyfield and Michael Moorer.
