'Smokin' Joe Frazier (March 8, 1971) vs. 'The Brown Bomber' Joe Louis (Sept 24, 1935)

Frazier would take a lot of hammering before he went out. If this fight takes place in the thirties or forties with slightly smaller gloves and a less humane referee, Frazier would likely suffer a few broken bits.

Not sure if the '35 Louis is the one to do it though, I may even favour Frazier there. I've always thought Louis was better in the early '40s where he had a bit more experience and professionalism, while still retaining his youth.

 

One thing Im sure we can all agree on is that Frazier would not look prety at the end of it after walking into all those clusterbombs.

 

Louis by KO......Louis may get rocked or dropped but get up to dominate and win by KO

 

Louis would KO Frazier, he had trouble with guys like bonavena and others, someone with louis's power and skill and ability to deliver his punches with accuracy and timing, he might hurt Joe L. but in the end down goes Frazier!

 

I was never sure about this one some years back, but now I see Louis winning this. Does too much damage before Frazier can really get going.

You can say lets take that Frazier on that night against anyone, but remember, you can say take the Hagler that destroyed Hearns and took his Power punches against anyone, but that would not be the case, yes they would be in that shape, but Mentally they would not be, example, Hagler hated hearns, literally wanted to kill him and he tried, soon after he fought Leonard, but seemed slower, lethargic, and just not throwing punches at every chance he had to, that killer attitude he had with hearns was gone, WHY? because him and Leonard actually were friends, leading up to the fight they had dinner together with their wives, he would have fought hearns right there at the dinner table, same for Ali, Frazier wanted to Kill him, he would not have felt that way against probably any other fighter, so that would have taken away some of what made both Hagler and Frazier so much more awesome during those fights, but either way, Louis does not lose to a 1 - armed fighter, many do yes, even some ATG's but not Louis.

After being dropped early he picks up the pace after 6 and ends up hitting Joe too much

 

Frazier stops him sometime after the 10th.

 

Tough thing about picking this fight is opinions on both sides are right, I can see Louis stopping Frazier with his accurate combinations and Frazier could get in Louis's grill and wear him down. I suppose it would depend on can the Brown Bomber hurt Joe Frazier and stop his advance.

 

You know I really hate to pick against Joe Frazier in this fight, and at the same time I don't want to pick against the Brown bomber.

 

Could go either way. If Joe Frazier finds his groove like he usually did around the 3rd or 4th round Louis has some trouble in front of him. Smoke could take away Louis leverage and force him back on his heels.
He would be essentially fighting Frazier off of him rather than fighting him. Smoke took away his opponents time and room and made them rush their attack.
It's a good fight. With guys like Tony galento dropping Louis, Smokin Joe's chances can't be discounted. I don't see the Brown Bomber having the physical strength to push Joe away consistently the way George Foreman did.
Tough tough call. I would not bet on this fight if it actually was a reality. If I'm pinned down I'll lean slightly towards Joe Louis. Probably by TKO in the 7th or 8th. Both men seeing the canvas

 

A one armed hwt has little chance of beating Joe Louis. Louis side steps to his left waiting for the hook, blocks and counters with his own. Frazier being such a slow starter (for those unknowing watch the preflight of Ali Frazier 3 and both Ken Norton, a close friend of Frazier, and Don Dunphy have to say about Frazier’s slow starting). At some point that counter hook hurts Frazier and Louis is all over him finally unleashing his best punch his straight right. KO win for Louis within five rounds.

 

It depends. If Frazier starts slow, he's meat. No way he could take Louis power. Frazier was a very limited one tick pony. He did not feature a jab or a right hand. The right hand was the punch that often landed on Louis thanks to his low left hand. Louis actually had a decent rear guard( higher right hand )

I'd pick Louis inside 5 rounds.
