Two nearly men in there respective eras. Shavers dropping holmes with that cracking punch. Cooper been the first to drop the real deal.
Taking both men from these title challengers who takes it?

I'd like to think that Shavers could beat Bert Cooper and he might very well have. But Bert could crack and give a lot of good guys some problems. If Cooper shows up in his 1990-1992 form against the Earnie from about 1976-1979 this could be a real barn burner for 3-5 rounds. Not sold on a winner, but the Acorn should probably be slightly favored.

Cooper threw much shorter and technically sound hooks, I know that for sure. Earnie looked like he was throwing a baseball sometimes, he could get caveman level wild. Cooper had great short hooks on the inside.

Yes, a hell of a fight. I tend to consider Shavers to be a true contender, and Cooper just a journeyman who didn't really belong at heavyweight. Earnie lost to some smallish guys, so it's not outrageous to think that Cooper could take him out. Overall though, I think Shavers was a more successful heavyweight and I would put my money on him.

I'm edging my bets towards cooper. He had a sort of good period where he gave holy, moorer and mercy tough fight s, so I'm taking that bert to catch shavers early, hurt him and stop him in a shock result.

In title fights Shaver floored Holmes and had Ali reeling around the ring.
Cooper in title fights floored Holyfield for the first time and had Moorer
on the canvas twice. Cooper had better chin and more stamina . In
this non title fight Cooper comes off the canvas to stop Shavers in 3 in
    slugfest.

At his very best Shavers would win. Shavers however on any given night was a beatable hwt.

Shavers. He's a bit bigger and hits harder. Bert's lack of defense will cost him here as we know if Shavers can hit you clean with the right hand he can do major damage. Cooper was durable but he could be hurt and few punched harder than Shavers.

I gotta go with Shavers here to get to the KO. Shavers though inconsistent at his best was a legitment contender. I'd look for him to take Cooper out in the early rounds.
