This was part of a mysterious tournement won by tony tubbs in 93'. I have never seen any of the other fights in the tournement, but i have waited all these years to see how a genuine bare knuckle fighter fared against top boxers of the day.

It actually wasn't part of the tournament. Savage was supposed to take part in it after talking trash about boxers, but pulled out due to a hand injury although most felt it was because he had seen the other participants in sparring and chickened out. To his credit he summoned enough courage to step in the ring with Bert Cooper, and the result is what you see above. Never heard of Savage afterwards.

I always thought savage backed out of it also and was suprised to find this. If it was his first pro fight It is a tough debut!!! If the whispers are true about kimbo slice turning pro I doubt he gets a contender like cooper in his first fight like savage did...

Lenny and Roy wouldn't have fared much better in my estimation.

I think they were all tough within their own shady circles but a long way short of profesional athlete standards. They were not just bullys because at least they took each other on. but again it was at their level. street level. lots of money in it though. I know pro fighters who couldnt get a break in the pro's who lived on freinds couches and walked the streets who switched to unlicensed and bought houses, cars and lived prety well out of it by comparison.

Probably not ,even an over the hill Cooper was decidedly too tasty for Savage.

Stander went into the fight with a broken rib I believe, and he was a washed up punching bag anyway.

The friend I referred to, told me Stander had a rib injury when he arrived in the UK.
The fight is ,or was on You Tube .Gorman I have not seen.

Just to add ,my friend did a couple of " jobs" with Roy, and went " away " with him too, I asked him what he was like to " work with " ,he said, "unpredictable".
