If you are going to take training seriously, you have to quit smoking.

Like some guy on this forum said, not smoking, eating properly, and not abuseing beer gives extra edge against other athleats, but if you can perform decently while smoking and your satisfied with your current shape and stamina do what you like :good
    Oh yeah, smoking kills!!!

Some guys have a lot of natural ability and can compensate the fact that they don't work as hard/smoke/drink. However, unless you are like that, you need all the advantages you can get - and that means living clean. Besides, maybe those guys who smoke and party too much would have been even beter if they didn't.

Btw, Doomas, glad to see another Tischenko fan! Where in Lithuania do you box?

I'm not sure whether he will, as he has other stuff he's involved in like politics :) He's quite well known, especially in Omsk, and may decide to go down the route of sports administration, regional government or something like that, although, if he wins the olympics it will make financial sense to turn pro. I think losing unexpectadly in the world championships will bring him back into form and make him focus on boxing full out. Frankie Gavin is very very good, but Tischenko should beat him normally.

When I was younger I was on a boxing training exchange and some guys from the Lithuanian junior team were there. Quality guys they were - wish I remembered their names as I'm curious if they are still boxing.

I bet if he was in america, promoters would be all around him, someone with such achievements is just asking for contract, but its hard to judge where he could gain more fame and fortune, boxing or politics, hes also a smart fella, so I wouldnt be surprised of he chose something else to do in his life.

When this exchange training happened and where ? At what weight you were fighting back then ?

    Quit smoking ffs.

Smoking affects breathing and stamina big time! Without the aforementioned one is a loser to start with.....

It's just you in this hard sport. It's not a game. Why screw things up and make it easier for your opponent by attacking your lungs?

Might as well lower your arms and be a punching bag! Actually why box at all?

Smoking will definitely impair your breathing ability and therefore your aerobics. I had been smoking for damn near ten years until a few days ago and it has definitely affected my lungs. I went for a 20 min run the other day and my lungs were burning! Don't smoke and train.

Rumor has it the Surgeon General has begun putting warnings on cigarette cartons. Is this true? Maybe that will give us a better understanding of whether smoking affects us. :think
