If you want to be a boxing promoter you have to be dedicated to the sport. He was just riding coattails and treating boxing like a street hustle. Plus he tried to snake Al Haymon when Floyd was in prison. He treats his fighters like **** and can't even get them a gym fight without controversy. Good riddance Fif:hi:
50 cent burned to many bridges before he even started. 1-Messed up with Floyd 2-Messed up with Oscar 3-Messed up with Haymon those are 3 big major players
It seems very difficult to be a successful promoter due to the current landscape of boxing. A guy like 50 who's worth just as much as Oscar and Arum can basically be blackballed from relevant bouts. And when he was given opportunities for his fighters it was almost laughable and unfavourable circumstances. Gamboa going up two weight classes to take on the best guy at lightweight and Kirkland fighting the second best Jr.Middle after a year and a half layoff. His stable was too small and no promoter was willing to consistently sacrifice one of their gatekeepers to provide showcase fights for his fighters. Best to cut his losses while they're minimal as opposed to continuing investing in a stagnated business.
The fact that 50 failed says more about how corrupt boxing is than anything else. His fighters are exciting.....that should have been enough for him to be successful. Al Haymon basically had to back door his way in to the industry on the back of the biggest star in the sport while being sleazy behind doors.
didn't he leave the arena and leave gamboa after he lost, (in an incredibley valient effort and put on a great show i might add)? if so goodluck and good riddence
