The British Isles: 1. Joe Calzaghe 2. Nigel Benn 3. Chirs Eubank 4. Steve Collins 5. Carl Froch 6. Robin Reid 7. George Groves 8. James DeGale 9. Ray Close 10. Murray Sutherland Rest of the world: 1. PED cheat Roy Jones Jr 2. PED cheat James Toney 3. PED cheat Andre Ward 4. Mikkel Kessler 5. Chong-Pal Park 6. Sven Ottke 7. Mards Lardsen 8. Thunlai Malinga 9. Victor Cordoba 10. Christophe Tiozzo. Yes the British isles win hands down. I think 12 stone is the weight of the natural man in the western world and where Britain, who despise PEDs can compete without them.
You have to look at resumes and who did what but I would possibly have it something like this Britain Its difficult to find a fair order with so many top SMWs. The number 1 and 2 is simple when you look at resumes, but after that it is very debateable in my opinion and several names have been included Calzaghe Eubank Benn Kessler (half British) Reid/Woodhall Froch Catley Degale Starie/Francis/Groves Rest of world Also difficult as there are several fighters that could be considered like Lacy, Veit, Mundine. The numbers 1, 2 and 3 were simple based on resumes and accomplishments, but after that, it could have gone several ways Ottke Collins Kessler Jones Ward Beyer Mitchell/Bute Malinga Toney Park What isnt in dispute in my opinion, based on resume and accomplishments Calzaghe Eubank Ottke (After that would possibly say Collins for great wins like beating undefeated Eubank twice, and Benn twice as well as Sellier) Collins (Would favour Benn after this, once again based on results) Benn
This is interesting. Just a few questions if you don't mind. We know that based on statistics, Sven Ottke is one of the best fighters to have fought at the weight. But how did you rate him as a fighter? There's lot's of SMW's I'd rate above him, even though their resumes aren't as good on paper. Do you think Collins deserves a lot of credit for beating those versions of Benn? I don't. Do you think a peak Eubank would have beaten Collins? :good
is this h2h? if so british isles - 1. eubank 2. benn 3. froch 4. watson 5. calzaghe 6. reid 7. graham 8.woodhall 9. groves why have I only listed 9? Because Collins in theory should be in it, only hes Irish, which has nothing to do with "Britain". But if he was in it he'd be top 5. on acheivements it would be a different story. Now, worldwide H2H - 1. Jones 2. Ward 3. Lilles 4. Eubank 5. Toney 6. Benn 7. Collins 8. Froch 9/10.Calzaghe 9/10. Kessler I'mnot including Ottke since he really lost the title three times, and was never forced to win it back (which I don't think he could have).
No way Ottke is so high up, as far as i know he got sh*tloads of robberies. When we are talking about SMW are we talking about the natural SMW's or the fighters who fought there as well?
as bxing fans we can safely say he was defeated at least three times, and since he never tried to rematch those defeats we can also safely say he lost any titles he had early in his career. Hes not a top smw.
I felt Eubank probably deserved the first fight with Collins. As for Benn, he was a SMW world champ, who lost a SD to fighter who would go on to reign at SMW again. Benn was still a top world class SMW who had never been clearly beaten at the weight, so yes I rate Collins wins over him. Thats like saying you dont rate Wards win over Froch if you look at Frochs loss to kessler and struggling performances. Now to Ottke. Ottke was a very hard to beat fighter, and yes I rated him. He wasnt a big puncher but seemed to have physical strength, great footwork, good boxing ability and combinations. Many look at his fight with Reid, but I think Ottke was past his best then. Yes Ottke had fights that were close to score, but not as many in reality as people who never watched him like to make out. I cant rate many above Ottke as he did so much against good SMWs. I think he would be at the top if around today, with many saying he is not exciting and not a big puncher, but outboxing and out smarting the other SMWs for victories
Why not pick another SMW from Britain if you dont put Collins in? There are at least 3 other British SMW champs I can think of off the top of my head possibly more if I thought about it
yes, and its yours for replying to someones opinion. learn to accept opinions of other, don't be a baby.
because hes optional. hes "in the list" as far as the thread goes, but I find it offensive to Irish to put him in a list of british fighters, even brit isle fighters - as I said, Ireland has nothing to do with britain. Yet STeve is no less a fighter for that - his place shouldn't go to someone else, I feel it would be an insult to Collins to "replace him"
It's not your real opinion though. You are posting through butt hurt gritted teeth and know that 'Zaggers is the 168 GOAT :hi:
