Is it more effective to snap a punch rather than tighten the fists and amrs? What I will do with my jab is keep a very loose hand, snap it out, clench my fist right at the point of impact, and then snap it back. To me it feels faster and more fluid, but I didn't know if you wanted to keep a tighter fist while you follow through with the punch.

you shouldn't clench your fists and arms the entire time anyways. you should stay loose and just as you mentioned, tighten the fist right before impact.

You'll wear yourself out if you remain tense the entire time.

This.:good Your forearms will feel like bricks before long if you keep your hands clenched tight all the time. I was taught to keep relaxed, clench the fist before impact and to slightly twist the punch a bit on impact to try to tear the skin. Bring the punch back quickly to a good defensive position and look for another opening.

Turned over perfectly the snap helps you bring your hand back. Just don't do it too early...right before its about to land a quick turn over gives you plenty bang with minimal exertion. Its not about grinding the face........but it can be if that's what you prefer

be in balance and have the right form. without that your jab will be utterly useless. Just throw the jab on the bag for 4-6 rounds and try and get the right form. Shadow box in front of the mirror and do it till your body does it naturally.

The whole reason for snapping punches is so that, at the moment of impact, you are one solid mass and no energy escapes thru loose joints.

So, yes, you want to clench your fist too when you land. It'll be the difference between slapping and thudding. Also, you can time it so your forward step, as you jab, lands on the floor at the moment of impact too. So your feet will be locked for an instant at that same moment. More transfer of power to the jaw.
